NEW Dual Progressive League (1905 / 1955) Topic

The Fives Dual Season Progressive League
  • Tough to Tank
  • Difficult to build super teams for a super season
  • Tries to mimic real life
  • We will begin with the 1905 and 1955 seasons...No salary cap
  • WW not allowed
  • No DH
  • 6/2 AAA, below avg ability, randomly assigned. Transaction deadline will be used. (Game 150)
  • First season's division alignment- logical as much a possible, then stays the same.
  • Pick your stadium with your team and your team name should incorporate your location. For example the Boston Pies and they play in Fenway. No duplicate stadiums will be allowed. You will be allowed to switch stadiums so long as it does not belong to another owner. An owner may only switch a stadium ONE time. Any replacement owners will be allowed to swap when they assume an existing team.
  • Trading- allowed and encouraged. Draft picks may be traded, up to THREE seasons in advance.
Vetoes of 6 or more owners nullify a trade. All trades must be posted in the trade thread by all involved parties to be valid. Trades involving draft picks, or trades that affect draft order, will also be kept on page 1 of the upcoming season's draft thread for reference.
  • Draft slots / Player seasons: Combined losses over two years. If in Year One the team loses 90 games and in year two they lose 100 games their total losses would be 190 and that 190 will be used to determine the draft slot. The higher the number the sooner the team will pick. I HATE tanking and the owners should want to win rather than lose but as circumstances happen rebuilds are necessary. To prevent total tanking the draft slot will be adjusted as follows. Any loss over 100 gets substracted from the aforementioned loss total. For example if in year one the team loses 90 games but in year two they lose 105 games instead of a total score of 190 their score will be 185 as those five losses over 100 will actually count as wins. I think losing is part of the game but tanking needs to be curtailed and I believe using the two year system vs. one year and the over 100 loss penalty is a great way to do it. The three teams with the highest numbers will be thrown into a lottery (Round 1 only) and the result of that lottery will end up with the better picks and tanking could put you out of the lottery (losses over 100). Lastly and THIS IS CRITICAL and differentiates the league. READ BELOW:
    • Owners often try to build for a super year. Drafting players that are very good say in 1980. This is unrealistic as in real life teams rarely know how good or bad of a season a player will have. The more consistent players generally produce but one or two-year wonders can fade or have a career year. Conversely the consistent players can go up and down too. To sort of mimic this, the progressive will have a twist on the years. I will use the 1972 Rod Carew as an example. If you own Carew and the prog year is 1972 you will have a 50% chance that your Carew will actually be the 1972 Carew. You have a 20% chance that it will be the 1971 Carew or the 1973 Carew and a 5% chance that it will be the 1970 Carew or the 1974. Carew. This will be determined by Random.Org. Using the formula below. More on the details of this will be provided further down but in essence in this league tanking will be partially eliminated and unpredictability will be interesting and just like in real life the goal will be to acquire consistent players vs. one year wonders but one year wonders could pay off too.
1 - 5 5%
2 6 - 25 20%
3 26 - 75 50%
4 76 - 95 20%
5 96 - 100 5%
  • If in the above example Carew did not play in 1973 due to being on IR your player will be on IR for that year. Injuries happen and they hurt a lot. You will be able to place Carew on IR until next year when you roll the dice again. Don’t draft often injured players if you want to avoid this or players with skips in their years. You could also get lucky and avoid the IR years or low productivity. No limit as to the number of players on IR, and no limit as to how long they remain there. They cannot be on IR if they are WIS eligible for the upcoming season. Any player returning from IR must be placed on your active roster.
  • Each season I will announce a date for rosters to be posted. Once the rosters are posted we will run the draft. Once each team has 25 players I will use Random.ORG to spit out numbers and assign the appropriate years to each player INCLUDING the newly drafted players. So if the year is 1967 and you draft Rod Carew you will have to see if he really gets that year. Because there aren’t any years before 1967 for Rod he may only roll a 1967, 68 or 69 season. The season the player is drafted/eligible will always have a 50% chance of occurrence. For the 1967 Carew he will have a 50% chance that the season is 1967, 25% that it is 1968 and 25% that it is 1969. Next season in 1968 he will have a 50% chance that the season is 1968, 15% that it is 1967, 20% that it is 1969 and 15% that it is 1970. This will be done for every player. At the end of the draft I will send a site mail to each owner showing them their years and the random.org time stamp. So when you have keepers in the keepers page you will list the # of years each player is eligible and same for new draft picks. I will then “roll the random.org dice” and see what you get.
  • Initial player draft: Once we have 24 owners/stadiums the initial draft season will be a serpentine style 1-24, 24-1 draft consisting of 25 rounds. Starting in 1905/1955 and going forward. Post the draft we will run the randomization and if you have any players on IR we will have a subsequent three round draft. So if you lose your starting 2B have a Plan B!
  • Subsequent seasons: See above for the draft rules in season one we will just go by that season’s W/L.
  • Disputes: In the event of a dispute where there is no set rules and or guidelines, or if their interpretation is unclear, the commissioner will make a ruling. If three or more owners object to the ruling, the commissioner’s view does not stand and the issue is brought to all the owners through a vote which will be notified to all owners through a sitemail.
  • Rule Changes: These can be discussed at any time. The first owner to want a rule change should start a thread and we’ll use that going forward to discuss any changes. However, in order to protect owners from having to vote constantly or on frivolous issues, a proposal to make, modify or eliminate a rule must be seconded by three or more owners in addition to the proposing owner before it can be voted on.
  • Voting: Each owner gets one vote. Majority rules on all votes. Majority means the majority of owners who vote, not the majority of owners. However there must be at least 15 votes cast on any issue for the vote to be valid. The commissioner does not vote unless there is a tie; then he/she is the deciding vote. The commissioner does however set the time deadline within which the voting must take place.
  • Years and odds:
Five Eligible Years:
1 1 - 5 5%
2 6 - 25 20%
3 26 - 75 50%
4 76 - 95 20%
5 96 - 100 5%
Four Eligible Years:
1 1 -10 15%
2 6 - 25 20%
3 26 - 75 50%
4 96 - 100 15%
Three Eligible Years
1 1 -25 25%
2 26 - 50 25%
3 51 - 100 50%
Two Eligible Years
1 1 - 50 50%
2 51 - 100 50%
When you post your keepers / teams please place a number next to each player as to how many eligible years they have. The “3” is always the primary year and it is pretty easy for 5 year players (1 and 2 are two seasons before and 4 and 5 are for two seasons after the primary year). Same for 3-yr players). For 4-yr players a roll between 26 – 75 results in the primary season. If he has two prior seasons available and the year is 2000 then a roll of 1 – 10 results in using the 1998 year and a roll of 6 – 25 results in 1999 and a roll of 96 - 100 results in 2001. IF that player only has one prior year left then a roll of 1 – 10 results in 1999, a roll of 6 – 25 results in 2000, roll of 26 – 75 results in 2000 (current year) and a roll of 96 – 100 results in 2002.

As a courtesy to the league, if you are not returning for the following season please notify as soon as possible. That way we can find a replacement. Please only join this league if you are committed for the long haul. Min. of SEVEN SEASONS.
