Just wondering if you could only have 1 offense formation and 1 defense formation what would it be? A lot of people say you should just use 1 formation.

You will get a large variety of answers here. I know have seen every single formation used. It really depends what you personally like and what you want to try to achieve with your team. To start this topic out I will say the most common used offense is pro set and for defense it is probably 4-3 but 3-4 is also used quite a bit.

Here is a great ? To ask:

1) Why choose the 3-4 instead of the 4-3 at DIII or any other level?

I am in my 25th season of an all Nickel Defense in D2 Leahy.. Have had some decent results.

Have you ever tried this in D1A?

When I was in D1A I used 5-2 and Dime.... You only need 5 LBs on the roster with one a Redshirt....... Same thing as running all Nickel. Everyone, seasons ago went to the 3-4 and fought for all the great LB's. I diminished their numbers in my system. Recruiting one LB to be RS every season made sense. I then focused on DB's with A+ growth. AWAGS: you truly won the race to the top in the beginning of Yost.. Impressive.... I was too late for all the Genesis Jobs.

Generally, I've found it easier to get good LBs than good DLs, but a lot of that comes from years ago recruiting against coaches who came up in WIS 1.0. It's loosened up a bit since then.

LBtypically is less difficult to recruit, I agree. But, do you find it as effective at stopping both run and pass as 4-3?
