I thought it might be fun to discuss draft strategy in this league.
So clearly Arizona and Boston with two stud SP each were teams I think anyone would have gone for off the bat. I felt behind the 8-ball from the outset and had to figure out how to build a good enough rotation. I went with Houston first so I could get the first pick in the next round to grab Moneyball Oakland, which netted me several good rotation candidates and a left side of the infield in Tejada and Chavez.
I had been thinking I'd use Bagwell and Berkman from the Astros along with Oswalt and a couple prime RP (Dotel and Wagner). But then when I ended up taking Texas later, Palmeiro supplanted Bagwell, and A-Rod supplanted Tejada, plus I-Rod takes the catching spot (3 members of the lineup from a 72-win team wasn't bad, I figured). I took Seattle primarily for Moyer to fill out the rotation and a very studly Rhodes in the pen, along with Ichiro to lead off. Your imagined roster keeps changing as you shift things around.
I think my defense will be suspect, with Ichiro playing somewhat out of position in CF and two weak corner guys. I just couldn't find a team with a great CF that fit my needs elsewhere. I might have to take a pitchers park to compensate a bit, as I think my bashers will hit just about anywhere and there's going to be sluggers in every lineup. Still looking at that ...
Anyway, this should be fun. GL to everyone.
