Let the roster dissection commence!

Day 1 brings a Mauch to kick off the tourney. Ouch.

The Bill Bernhard experiment is off to a bad start. I've never used him before and have him on 3 teams this round. He went 0-2 with a no decision for me.

Wow... really? You have played over 50,000 sim games and have never used Bill Bernhard?
12/20/2017 10:17 AM
Not that I recall. I suppose it's possible. I'd be hard pressed to recall teams from 10-15 years ago.

Bill Bernhard is the best value in the sim right now and will continue to be for the foreseeable future until the new pricing structure is completed by seble. Bernhard's usage (and therefore salary bump) is 1/3 what it should be due to having 3 basically identical versions.

the only negative about Bernhard is his very low k/9 and bb/9 - affecting his fatigue and recovery.

It's a double edged sword - since he's a deadball pitcher, that means more balls in play which negatively impacts your team's error rate. But, since + plays are cheap and K's are expensive, if you have good range behind him this can actually accentuate his value

I've been hearing more and more about his value, which is why I decided to go big on him this tourney, especially in the lower-cap leagues. Hopefully I get a good return.

And Joss gives up 7 runs in the Astrodome in the $80M league. This could be a long season...

It's not surprising deadball pitchers might not have as much success in round 2. Most of those people advancing to round 2 know how to build rosters to beat deadball pitching. I drafted very few deadballers onto my six teams. (i.e., my $80M & $90M teams have no deadballer starting pitchers).

Paying for low HR/9 can be a waste at this level of competition since fewer owners draft HR hitters or pick parks that are anything other than HR-depressing. Additionally, the benefit to error rate that modern pitchers provide is not negligible.

I debated doing the same thing as schwarze but did not have as much time to build my rosters so did not feel comfortable doing so and relied heavily on personal favorites.

Joss is on my chain team. I only made 3 iterations, and this was my best. Still, I hope to get solid results from him. I liked him for his innings and low walk total, which I figured would play at the Astrodome with reduced hits. That team has got some pretty good range up the middle to compensate for his low K total as well.

A .500 day one, but it feels worse since 4 of my teams are 1-2

Is anyone else having major fatigue issues? I have 4 aces with 215+ RL IP who threw ~110 pitches in Game 1 and still won't be at 100% for Game 5.
