Is a stupid stat for stupid people.

Unsuprisingly, tec loves it.
This indicates that you think Mussina/Glavine are stupid people. Did you change your mind?

Pitcher Wins, like RBI and saves, are completely circumstantial and shouldn’t be used to compare pitchers.

That being said, 300 wins will always be, and should be, an automatic ticket to Cooperstown

Consistent winning just like consistent run producing means something

A truly stupid stat is +/ - in hockey.

"You probably didn't earn most of your wins but you ended up with a lot. Welcome to the hall."

Seems that would be a strange dialogue.

I just hate when people use Wins to compare pitchers.

Like

one guy went 16-8

the other guy went 13-12

Who pitched better?

I prefer to stick to stats like WHIP, OAV, HR/9, BB/9. Stats that actually show how well a pitcher pitched.

That makes more sense in comparing a season. Career wins is another story.

Well, again, only good pitchers stick around long enough to get a lot of wins. The best pitchers have a lot of losses for the same reason. That doesn’t make it a good stat.

I feel it applies to careers too. A 300 game winner should make the HoF.

It just bothers me that people have the need to mention wins.*

edit: * when comparing pitchers

Those best pitchers with a lot of losses. Do they have a lot of wins too? Remember, I'm still new at the stats only philosophy so I need all the guidance I can get.
