We are approaching game 120, and the draft will start off the clock probably around January 10th. The long-running Real Life Progressive league is looking for a new owner for the Expos (future Nationals). The Expos have 3.5 solid-to-excellent starters (Mike Moore is an ace in 1989), but probably should start a rebuild. They have valuable pitchers that could be traded, or that could power this team with additional starting pitching. Although the starting staff is only in need of one more quality starter, and is solid again in 1990 and has two excellent starters in 1991 (plus a solid #3), the batting lineup will be weak in 1989. This team is positioned for a selloff in 1989 and a high draft pick in 1990 (another great hitters draft). They will have a middle of the pack pick in 1989, in what is a very deep hitters draft.
This progressive league is like most, except that any player who started his career in a season is available to be drafted that season in the first round. In other words, in 1989, Robin Ventura, John Olerud, Ben McDonald and Kent Mercker can be drafted -- but they are not WIS eligible (just prospects) until 1990. A prospect (we keep a separate draft list to make it easy) joins any players you have on the DL/IR until he is WIS eligible. If you select a prospect in the 1st round (meaning someone who first played in 1989, but wasn't WIS eligible), you can pick up your 25th player in the supplemental draft round, which occurs after the normal draft is finished. The rest is pretty standard, with 4 AAA that you select from the 1989 season, and a DH is used in the AL.
