After reading these forums I have yet to get a comprehensive answer if there is a negative effect of starting a player too early in his career. I can see this improves their WE and understanding of Off/Def I do have concerns if this will negatively effect their category caps. Does anyone have any empirical evidence either way. Not really concerned about anecdotal, just looking for feedback if you ran any types of experiments in season.

The only downside of starting a player early in their career is that you are starting someone who is probably not very good and has low IQ.

There is no downside for the player's development -- playing time positively impacts the speed of category growth. It has no effect on the maximum theoretical growth within any category.

As mrslam34 pointed out, the downside is that most freshmen suck. But if your team is going to be terrible no matter who you start, then you should always start your freshmen to max out their categories and IQ.

it it increases the chance of early entry to the draft.

Do you mean because of WE inflation and quicker ratings growth? If so you can counteract that with an intentiaionally ****** practice plan.
