I don't think this can be disputed but I'm sure someone will. In order:

Bama
Clemson
Ohio State

I expect Texas, Oklahoma and Georgia to round out the top 6 in a couple of years.

USC

Since the inception of the CFP those are indeed the top 3. Followed by Oklahoma and Wisconsin. Florida State was top 6 before this year, but has been replaced by Georgia.

I was sort of looking at last 5-8 years. It's largely coach/facility based.

Also I guess it depends on what time frame. Right now? This year only? Going forward? Last 3? Last 5? Last 10? All-time?

I mean USC belongs if we're talking BCS era (1998-2013). They'd be top 10 for sure. If we're talking last 3 seasons only then not so much.

Ranking the teams so far this decade (2011 thru this season) it'd be

1) Bama
2) Clemson
3) Ohio St.
4) Florida St. -- trending DOWN
5) Oklahoma
6) Stanford
7) Wisconsin
8) Georgia
9) Oregon -- trending DOWN
T10) LSU -- trending DOWN
T10) Oklahoma State

Anyone that has had a coach change in the last 2-3 seasons is still in turmoil. I think TX, OK and GA have great hires at schools that will keep their facilities at the top. OSU, Clemson and Bama already have that. Until Meyer gets in trouble then he'll fake a heart attack or something.

I think it's a little early to say FSU is trending down. If they struggle next season then yeah.

Nah, new coach, bad season, in Clemson's division. I think they're in for a rough stretch.

Oregon is complete ****.

Yeah, they'll be out of the top 10 by next season I assume. They just started the decade pretty strong.

Just counting the 4 seasons since the inception of the CFP it'd go:

1) Bama
2) Clemson
3) Ohio St.
4) Oklahoma
5) Wisconsin
6) Georgia
7) Florida St.
8) TCU
9) Stanford
10) Oklahoma St.
11) USC
12) Michigan St.
13) Washington
14) Penn St.
15) LSU

Since the beginning of the new millennium (2001-current):

1) Bama
2) Ohio St.
3) LSU
4) USC
5) Oklahoma
6) Florida
7) Florida St.
8) Clemson
9) Auburn
10) Texas
11)TCU
12) Miami
13) Georgia
14) Oregon
15) Wisconsin

Wasn't counting Group of 5 schools, but my next 5 are similar:

16) Tennessee
17) Michigan
18) Nebraska
19) West Virginia
20) Penn St.

I've got Boise much higher if we're counting Gof5 schools. Top 10 for sure. Utah would also be in the top 20 with two unbeaten seasons. They also never lose bowl games. Louisville would make it as well and probably BYU.

Clemson = not really a powerhouse until recently. Still a very respectable program. I have them at 24-25.

Washington = not in the top 50. They were pretty terrible prior to Petersen taking over. They had only 8 winning seasons compared to 6 losing seasons. One of those they had 0 wins and an additional 10 loss season. They did have the one 10 win season where they won the PAC10 and then the Rose, but otherwise not much on their resume. In their other 8 bowl games they went 2-6.

Notre Dame = About 27-28

All of the teams I listed had National championships, or at the very least several conference championships as well as multiple 10 win seasons.
1/3/2018 7:53 PM
Also have FSU ahead of Bama, simply due to the rough patch Bama went through 3-8, 4-9, 6-6 etc. Florida State had no down years even remotely close to those.

They won 153 games during the BCS era while Bama had 142 which is damn impressive considering those lean seasons. For context most wins during that stretch was Ohio State's 161. Counting Gof5 schools it was Boise St.'s 171.

I could certainly concede Texas ahead of USC, but they are close. USC won 6 conference titles during that stretch while Texas only managed 2, USC didn't have Oklahoma in their conference though... Also aiding USC is their dominance in BCS games. They were dominant against the best going 6-1, their only loss coming to that National Champion Longhorn team.

I have Auburn outside the top 10 due to their own rough patch. They won only 3 games twice during that stretch. Oregon has 25 more wins than Auburn during that stretch. BUT Auburn does have the one NC and also probably was robbed of another.

You leave Wisconsin out of the top 20? They had 5 B1G championships. 2nd only to Ohio St.'s 7.
Only 11 teams had more wins during that time frame. More than Nebraska, more than Miami, and more than Bama. They belong top 20.

Based on this A&M could be in a couple years as well.
They have the $ and will build whatever Jimbo asks them to facilities wise.
Would be surprised if they weren't near the top in a few seasons.
