Shtickless (S45) has 2 openings! Topic

Shtickless is just entering the divisional round of playoffs, but we've already confirmed that there will be 3 openings for the upcoming season!

Please keep a few things in mind when looking at these openings:
  • Shtickless has a MWR - this was instated 3 seasons ago, and we're just now having to enforce it for the first time (see the New York opening). It's pretty simple; lose 100+ games two seasons in a row and you're probably out, unless there were some extenuating circumstances outside of your control.
  • If you neglect your minor league teams, I'll bug you about it relentlessly. It's not difficult to fill out minor league rosters and put them on autopilot.
  • If you're easily offended, this might not be the league for you. Shtickless has been a community on WIS for over a decade now (past threads can be found in the "Non-Sports" section of the WIS forums), and has historically been a less-than-sensitive group. Don't get me wrong - if you're serious about building a good team there are at least a dozen highly experienced owners that would be willing to help you do so, but there will be no policing of the world chat.

See below for the list of open franchises:

New York (AL East) - 42-120 FILLED by wrecks

This franchise is the reason for the MWR. Three consecutive seasons of minimal payroll and 110+ losses, even after the MWR was announced. That being said, this makes for an attractive rebuild. Very few contracts carrying over with some absolute studs rising through the ranks in the minors. If managed correctly, this team could be set up to easily make the playoffs for the next 10+ seasons.

Dover (NL East) - 71-91

tylermathias is the only person who has ever managed this franchise. The team he leaves behind is still pretty solid despite a subpar record. Not many long-term contracts, and the ones they have are for players under the age of 32. There are a handful of decent prospects, including a few SPs that should crack the ML roster in the next season or two. Overall, this is the most flexible team we have available. Anyone taking over could choose to trade away existing talent and do a complete rebuild, or add a few pieces in FA and get right back to being a competitive team.

Portland (NL West) - 65-97

Since tbarden left 5 seasons ago, none of the 3 managers that followed him have been able to figure out how to win with this team. It shouldn't be hard to turn the team around - several good prospects are rising up through the minors including a few pitchers that should be dominant aces in the next season or two. Most of the good ML talent is under the age of 27, and there are a lot of expiring contracts that can either be re-signed, or abandoned in the hopes of spending a ton on other FAs in the off-season.

Post here or send me a sitemail if you're interested in any of these openings!

That Dover team has some great pieces, with 1 or 2 moves it will be in the division hunt, and Portland... they have been adding prospects over the last couple seasons, time will make them good.

Still two openings in a great league! We haven’t quite hit the LCS stage of the playoffs, so still plenty of time to decide which one you’d like.

RIP tylermathias.

You only get one liver. Especially if you have diabetes.

Yes, the only real openings are the ones listed. Everyone else has confirmed returns and either wasn't paying close enough attention or are looking to switch cities.

Reach out if you're interested in either of the openings. I've already got a few users interested, but the bottom line is that this is the best HBD league I've ever been a part of, and the sheer amount of trade activity and rapid FA turnover makes it easy to build the exact team you're looking to have in a few seasons.
