Best Franchise Tournament - $120M Salary Cap
Which franchise produces the best team? This tournament will decide this. This is for serious players only, as you will be required to purchase a $20 gift certificate (to fund the prize pool) as well as build and manage 8 teams (which will run simultaneously). Also, you need to find a partner before you sign up. I will not “hold” your spot while you find somebody to pair up with.
There will be 8 two-person partnerships, where each person will build and manage 8 teams. Each partnership will enter a total of 16 teams, one featuring players of each of the "original 16" franchises. How your partnership decides which franchise each of you will enter is up to you. A matrix will be posted which shows which teams / partnerships will enter which leagues.
Round 1
Each league will be a 16-team league with four divisions of 4. One conference will consist of the National League franchises while the other division will consist of the American League franchises. So there will be 8 total leagues of 16 teams each (128 teams = 16 owners x 8 teams each).
The total regular season wins by each of the 16 teams owned by a partnership will be added up. Bonus points will be added for the two World Series participants (10 for winning, 5 for losing). The partnership with the most points after Round 1 will split $240 (i.e., $120 each).
Round 2A
The 16 World Series Winners from Round 1 will compete in another 16-team league. The division alignment will be based on league numbers (i.e., league numbers 1-8 in one division, 9-16 in the other division, regardless of franchise). The World Series winner of this league will win $30. The World Series loser wins $10.
Round 2B
The team from each franchise with the best W-L record will advance to compete in another 16-team league. If tied, bonus points are used. If still tied, then best expected winning percentage is used. The World Series winner of this league will win $30. The World Series loser gets $10.
And yes, it’s possible that there will be some teams that get to play in both 2A and 2B.
