Man, my teams started off so well, I had (unrealistically) high expectations for them. ozomatli hasn't updated his spreadsheet in a while, but I probably won't be in first place after the next update. I can't remember the last time I had even a 4-4 session. A lot of 3-5's with a few 2-6's and even a 1-7. We're still a decent amount over .500 so I can't complain, but man, these wild swings are exasperating.

Yep, I confirmed it. buddhagamer has taken over the lead in wins with 208. I'm at 207, mildnhazy 206, pedrocerrano 204, mpitt76 200.

At least it will make things interesting.

I like to look at outliers. Through 48 games, the Cubs are ranked last as a franchise, with an average record of 22-26. But mildnhazy's Cubs are 31-17. So what makes his roster different. His pitching staff is pretty common compared to the other Cubs franchises. But it's his offense that's not very common. Here is his startling eight batters and the number of times those players were rostered...

C - 1993 R.Wilkins (2)
1B - 1912 H.Zimmerman (2)
2B - 1912 J.Evers (2)
3B - 1964 R.Santo (2)
SS - 1930 W.English (1)
OF - 1911 J.Sheckard (2)
OF - 1972 B.Williams (4)
OF - 1930 H.Wilson (2)

njbigwig's Red Sox team (30-18) is 6 wins better than any other Red Sox team. His offense has a few uncommon players such as '32 D.Alexander (1), '59 Pete Runnels (2), '75 Fisk (2), '44 B.Johnson (2). But it's his pitching makeup that is most unique. His three starters represent 75% of his pitching salary: 1908 Young (owned 5 times), 1912 Joe Wood (3 times) and 1916 Ruth (2 times). His entire bullpen costs just $13M and he has no pitcher over $3M (other than his 3 SPs). He didn't roster any of the top Red Sox bullpen choices of Kimbrel, Steele, Shore, Tazawa, Papelbon or A.Miller. He was one of two owners who does not have any version of Pedro on his roster. As a result, he was able to spend over $65M on offense.

It's worth mentioning ozomatli's Yankees team which has the best record of any team for any franchise (36-12). He does have the commonly owned players '04 Chesbro (8 times) and '10 Ford (6). But he's the only owner with 1914 Ray Caldwell. His offense does include a couple of commonly owned players = '28 Gehrig (4) and 85 Hennderson (3), but he's in the minority with the rest of his lineup: '21 Schang (1), '45 Stirnweiss (2), '42 Cullenbine (2), '19 Peckinpaugh (1), '62 Mantle (2), '24 Ruth (1).
2/17/2018 11:21 AM
Caldwell is one of the most underpriced pitchers in the game on an $/IP basis when considering ERC#
2/18/2018 2:21 AM
