that would make ten

I think the defensive zones depend on the defense. They are not always the same.

It's just something I picked up by watching who covered whom under different match-ups of offensive set vs defensive set. It took quite a while to develop the info.

Also, I think if the zones were designed on a one-size-fits-all-defensive-sets basis, you could flood a zone against at least some (if not all) defensive sets and with a smart enough QB always pass to an open receiver..

Is the prevailing opinion about DT's and DE's is that inside runs factor in DT's more (and then ILB), and that outside runs factor in DE's (and then OLB)?

If so that makes for an interesting quantum factor with outside runs - technically you are running around both ends at once. It shouldn't happen that way but it wouldn't surprise me a bit if it is.

Don't dismiss ten year old code. It could still be there untouched and unknown to the current development staff. I know this happens from experience in a development environment.

I agree. I do not think the code has changed. I think they have messed with the player attributes and some modifiers, but not the core logic.

pardon my ignorance

if there are seven defensive zones, name them and define them
I would love to hear from some vets on this, but here is what I think the 7 zones are....
  1. Inside Run
  2. Outside Run
  3. Very Short Pass
  4. Short Pass
  5. Medium Pass
  6. Long Pass
  7. Deep Pass
