Leveling out classes Topic

If I take over a team that has 17 Juniors and I want to level out the classes, is there any way to do that without cutting players? I have only played for one season and don't really want to mess up my ratings.

What I was thinking was that when the Juniors graduate, I would just sign 14 or so and save the scholarships for the following year, but I am under the impression that the AI SIM will take over and fill the 3 spots that I am trying to leave open. Is this correct?

That is correct, SIM AI will fill the class for you. You will also lose any extra money you might have saved instead of getting 25% rolling over.

You could sign 17 guys and then redshirt 3 of them. So then you would only have 14 guys in that class.

This is true, or you could let the Sim AI sign 3 guys and then cut them at the end of the season without too much damage to your reputation. You would still lose any carry over $$ but you would cut the class from 17 to14. Going that way I would suggest you use all the recruiting money for the 17 to get 14!

graham's advice is spot on for leveling the classes. However, I have had more success by having 1 or 2 large classes (18+ players) and 2 or 3 smaller classes. Just food for thought.

There are advantages....AND disadvantages to having unbalanced classes. I'm not a fan of "perfect" balance. I'm also not a real fan of 20 plus in any class either. 17 is not bad. I'd just roll with it.

If you redshirt 3 and don't cut anyone..your class size is really still 17 because in 4 seasons it all repeats with 3 redshirts from the previous season becoming part of this class (make sense??)

Thanks for your help!!

"If you redshirt 3 and don't cut anyone..your class size is really still 17 because in 4 seasons it all repeats with 3 redshirts from the previous season becoming part of this class (make sense??)"

There is no mechanism that makes the class 17 again, is there? It stays 14.

If you redshirt 3 freshmen every season and do not cut anyone, your class would be 17 again using the example above.

True, that's right. But I understood his objective was to reduce the size of the class from 17 to 14, and he can keep it there if he doesn't undo it as you describe. I guess I should have said "there is no default mechanism" or "there is no automatic mechanism."

Correct. It assumes 3 redshirts every year...which, if you don't do....is a bad decision. But I could have been a bit more clear.

It all made sense to me. I just didn’t know if I was missing anything. I’m probably jumping up to Div II too early, but thrown to the fire is sometimes a good way to learn. Plus you’re pretty handcuffed in Div III.

I appreciate all all the help!!

I think D2 is the best place to learn this game. You have the entire playbook to work with and recruiting very similar to D3 with a bigger budget.
