Is there any benefit to signing a player to a LT deal when they are only in their first arbitration?

If they are still developing, he'll be cheaper.

If they are older, you can lock them down for their peak years(prior to decline).

In 99% of the cases, no. I have, on occasion, signed LT after 1st arb. But, in 97% of the cases, that's also a "no".

If you really like the player by Arbing then twice you get them pretty much into their early 30's.

now, that being said, if you have fringe or stop gap players, sometimes a 3-4 LT deal is perfect. All depends how long you want to control the player for.
