New 5 Season Franchise Progressive NEED ONE Topic

This is a five season franchise progressive league. Only join if you're going to play all five seasons.

RULE UPDATE: The salary cap is $120M

Select your exclusive franchise and build your team with player seasons from your franchise.

Draft 9 forwards, 4 defensemen and 2 goalies from your franchise. For example: your team is Toronto, you can draft any Toronto player and start his 1st season anytime in his career. If Toronto drafts Darryl Sittler, you can start season one with his rookie season or 2nd or 3rd season etc. But you must use his seasons consecutively. You don't have to use all 5 seasons for a player but you probably want players with that many. If one of your original 15 doesn't have 5 consecutive seasons with your team, say he is traded in real life or retires, you must drop him.

Darryl Sittler
Season ONE: 72-73
Season TWO 73-74
Season THREE 74-75
Season FOUR 75-76
Season FIVE 76-77

You can keep Sittler for all 5 seasons. If you drop him, he is blacklisted from future drafts.

IMPORTANT: There is only one time a franchise player can be used by more than one franchise. That's in the original 15. So Sittler can be an original 15 player for Toronto and an original 15 player for Philadelphia. All future drafts, Sittler would not be available, example: his Detroit seasons would not be available.

If a player is WIS ineligible for a season after season one, you can put him on IR. Bring him back to your roster when he is WIS eligible.

So all teams will need 8 more players to fill their teams.

EDIT: Draft for the 8 players to fill rosters will be in reverse order of franchises selected. Not a snake draft.
The players available in this draft will be players not listed on any of the exclusive rosters. They can be from any NHL team.

Once these players are dropped, they are then blacklisted.

Example of a franchise player in this progressive...

Players who played with more than one franchise can be drafted by each franchise. Example: Wayne Gretzky can be drafted by Edmonton, Los Angeles, St. Louis and New York Rangers. So if Gretzky is drafted by Edm, L.A. and the NYR franchises but the St. Louis franchise doesn't draft Gretzky, then his St. Louis season won't be available in future drafts as he was on at least one original 15 roster.

After each season, owners will post their cuts. Then a draft set in reverse order of the previous seasons standings will take place.

Any players can be traded. Just make sure you don't trade for a clone.

No to WW, AAA and clones. No cap. We will go directly from 2003-04 to 05-06 because of the lock-out.

The first draft of 8 players, you can draft from ANY franchise as long as they are not a clone and keep them as long as you want.

Season 2 through 5 drafts, also draft from any team but no clones to be drafted
.

Rule Clarification: The original 15 players chosen for your franchise- all seasons for these players must be from your franchise.

Any players drafted in the 8 round draft that happen to be from your franchise can be kept even if they join a real life different franchise.

this is a little unclear to me: You can use the full season of a real life traded player. Just make sure to use the player season for your franchise listed in WIS.

if a player played for more than one franchise- let's say selanne- i have que/colorado- can i start/use his Winnipeg years or do i have start with a colorado season? if you choose the NYR and want gretzky- can you use his edm years?

I meant that if for example, one of your exclusives plays 4 seasons for you and is traded 20 games into season five, you can use his total stats for both teams he played for. I pointed out to use your franchise listed in WIS, so that it's easier to monitor.

If you have Que-Col you can only start with player seasons from that franchise, so no Selanne.

Same thing for Rangers, you can't use Gretzky's Edmonton seasons.

I'll take Buffalo. I think taking two teams is a good idea. A five season commitment will have trouble attracting takers. May as well get people who enjoy progressive leagues and will stick with them. Probably need to stipulate that owners of two teams can't trade between their two franchises. One more thing, for the first round draft - very critical to the whole league - rather than determine the draft order randomly, you could ask managers to submit their salary total for their 15 keepers in the first season and then create a low-to-high draft order that allows the owners at the bottom of the heap draft first. It's another way to compensate for getting stuck with a struggling franchise.

I agree. Someone ran this concept about five years ago. Several owners stacked their first two seasons, and the league died after season 3.
