Here's an interesting twist that would be interesting...
Each owner gets to draft 12 exclusive keepers. HOWEVER, if Rangers draft Gretzky then NO ONE else can draft Gretzky. Now, the Rangers can only use his Rangers seasons YET it would be a strategic move to remove Gretzky from the picture for Edmonton, thus evening the playing field. Detroit could nab Hull... Toronto could nab Mogilny... Penguins could nab Trottier... Avalanche could nab Kurri...
See where I'm going with this? The purpose behind the draft would change dramatically. And then you would have an even playing field. Otherwise, why would Rangers owner draft Gretzky? Why would Coyotes draft Hull or Roenick?
And thinking about that, even though that would happen, teams like Lightning, Ducks, Sens, etc. still don't have the consistent scoring that the other franchises have to be competitive. After Alfredsson and Heatley, Sens have nothing. And if those guys get nabbed by another owner, then Sens are toast.
Not complaining. As I said before, I like leagues like this, however since the seasons are restricted and the players aren't completely exclusive, the playoff teams and Cup contenders will be a very limited number of teams.
Even if you opened the draft up so that owners could draft exclusive players and use any season of their SIM career that would help a lot. Thus, Hossa becomes more attractive to Sens... Devils may use Kovalchuk... Avalanche may draft Selanne... etc.
Thanks!
