Well worth it to not have him playing at his age.

wait? I'm older and never had a 100th of the talent Bonilla had...why isn't someone paying me a million dollars a year not to play?

Brewers sign Yasmani Grandal to 1-year, $18M+ contract, and the media erupts talking about the best FA catcher who "had to" accept a one-year deal (I guess he had no choice but to reject the Mets' 5-year, $60M offer).
I didn’t realize he was 30.
AND he’s only made $20 up until this point. Ya he really ****** up.

Grandal says he turned down the Mets' offer out of respect for the stars that came before him.

Translation: I'll be a Met over my dead body.

what does that even mean? Out of respect for the starts that came before him? Would he be tarnishing Gary Carter's name by playing for the Mets? If you ask me, the only name he'd be tarnishing by playing for the Mets is his own.

He was in a tough spot. 5/60 is a real **** contract for him. There's probably going to be a strike or lockout soon. Maybe the free agent situation will be different next year.

More recent reports have the Mets' offer as 4 yrs/$60M... I think he was trying to indicate that he wouldn't take what he perceived to be a contract worth less per year than his worth (like the stars who came before him that always said "It's not about the money" and then took the highest offer).

Moustakas returns to the Brewers for a 1-year, $10M contract. I don't think he's a good hitter, but in theory he should produce some homers at Miller Park.

Brew crew traded Brinson. They will regret that.
As of 7/31/19, not yet.

Brewers have a relatively quite trade deadline, adding four pitchers (two go to the minors) to help fill holes caused by various injuries to the rotation. With the bottom-ranked farm system in baseball, they have little ammo to obtain quality pieces.

Given the extremely unlikely nature of this team making a good showing in the playoffs, it would have probably been best to try to trade Grandal or Moose for some farm system reinforcements. Would not have been a good signal to the fan base, though.

LHP Donnie Hart was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse by the Mets and pitched a perfect eighth inning, a day after he was claimed off waivers from Milwaukee.

We prefer that our relievers not be so perfect.

Opening Day starter Jhoulys Chacin designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man for ... wait for it... Cory Spangenberg.

Chacin has been recovering from some kind of oblique type injury and was not expected back until mid-September, at which point there would be no minor league season going on for him to rehab at. Contract is up after this year and given his performance, not a high priority to bring back.

There's always room in Boston!

I bet he didn't expect to be fired with that his most recent move...
