Larry Bird in HD Topic

What do you think Larry Bird's HD ratings would look like (during his college career)?

Michael Jordan? Others?

Rough guess, keeping in mind there was no 3pt line yet when he left college. I don’t see his turnover stats in college, so this is partly based on his pro performance.
Bird in college:
OVR-1025
Ath-95
Spd-75
Reb-100
Def-70
Blk-80
LP-95
Per-85
BH-65
Pass-95
WE-95
STA-95
Dur-75
FT-A-/A

Edit - after looking at his pro stats, I adjusted his LP/per a little, I thought he shot from outside a little more than he did.

some interesting ratings. If you click on the player names they have letter grades in about 10 different categories.
Inside, Midrange, Perimeter, Inside Def, Perimeter Def, Playmaking, Rebound, Physical, IQ

for instance, Bird is C- in Physical, which plays more into the averaged 50-60 range in HD. Maybe 70 ATH and 40 SPD?

i think i would give bird 100 pass and per

def, not seeing 95 there even if grading him against his college peers. maybe 75ish. he always did have a nose for the ball.
rebounding, he was crazy good reboudner given his physical limitations. im pretty sure there were better rebiounders even among his college peers... but maybe they were just better rebounders because they were more athletic. so hes probably 90-something RE
speed.. ...i mean, he had deceptively quick moves... but dude was sloooow in a footrace. i gotta think speed is 50-60

lp is a tough one. i dont really think of him as a great lowpost player.. but he definitely had more than just a great jumper... way more. so maybe he is elite lp. i just dont think of him as a true lp player.

i would think block is no more than 50 to 60.

Athleticism couldn't be above 90 for bird, he could barely jump. Speed maybe 50. Perimeter and low post, both in the 90s. FT A+. Pass could definitely be in the 90s.

Sorry. As a long time Bird fan I don't see your ratings correct. Bird was a below avg defender but an exceptional team defender which spikes up his number. He was an incredible rebounder considering his lack of overall athleticism. Probably the best big man passer of all time.

bretts bird numbers look about right to me.
my only complaint is PE
first, he is one of great all time shooters. and we are only grading against his college peers. and these are HD numbers... i havent played d1 in a while but im assuming every halfway decent d1 team in HD has at least one kid with PE in high 90s.
hes gotta be 100 PE

You're trying to tell me he was unplayable in collehe because of his De? I wouldn't recruit that player at DI with a 10 foot pole. Maybe those are his NBA ratings...

I don't think you guys are putting these ratings is real HD context here...

40 def is below average for a D3 player. The average D3 player would not be able to guard ANYONE in the NBA, let alone top tier D1 programs.

I do. And I watched college basketball when Curry was at Davidson. His first two years, his assist-turnover ratio was barely over 1:1. Improved his final year, but still not in line with stats from an elite BH guard in HD.
