It’s just how the game is nowadays. With the rise of bullpen specialists and all the pitching changes, the last couple innings take forever. A normal Verlander start breezes by, but god forbid he comes out in the 7th and the Tigers would have to use 6 pitchers to get the final 7-8 outs, either because they can’t get an out, or they “play the percentages”.
But I think they had it a couple spring trainings ago. Have the batter keep one foot in the box, they pitcher can’t doodle around with the rosin bag. No need for pitch clocks, or limited mound visits. Pitcher gets back on the rubber, batter stays in the box...wonder why they stopped enforcing it.
