Unfortunately for the Mets, it doesn't appear that they would be allowed to pick players from the opposing team to bat for them.

what a stupid idea. Heard a guy on sports radio here say they should institute the "slaughter" rule like in Little League. If team A is winning by 10 runs or more than they don't bat after the 7th inning unless the other team takes the lead.

How about this? Whatever team is losing in the 9th can have their BP pitcher throw meatballs to them. I think it's a great idea, so now I am declaring my intention to run for MLB commissioner.

Also, comparing baseball to other sports is nonsensical in any rules discussion. Different games, different rules.

Besides, Brady could be on the bench with the game on the line... He doesn't play def.

Crosby could be on the bench with the game on the line... He doesn't play every shift.

FWIW, MLB didn't announce this during the World Series so they didn't step on their dick in the normal way.

Manfred needs to go. He's far too obsessed with putting his stamp on the game, and he's willing to do it with the dumbest changes possible.

If you want faster games than call a strike a strike like they used to. Expand the zone. Then Mike's fave, Edgar Martinez would have to swing rather than take 8 pitches as he fouls off four more and walk. Then don't allow the batter to adjust their batting gloves after every pitch. Stay in the box. Add the DH in the NL. Pitchers cannot hit and more offense will be the result.

If you want faster games, adding a DH to the NL won't do it. Making 4 pitchers bat will.

Here's the thing: The casual fan is the ones ********. The casual fan also has no interest in the 2-1 game. The casual fan doesn't understand 9-6 games take longer. You can't win with the casual fan. I'll admit I have trouble with the Yanks/Sux 4:28 marathons but give me a good 3:18 game and I'm fine. If you want your games over in 2:03, go to soccer games. Or a goddam movie.

It’s just how the game is nowadays. With the rise of bullpen specialists and all the pitching changes, the last couple innings take forever. A normal Verlander start breezes by, but god forbid he comes out in the 7th and the Tigers would have to use 6 pitchers to get the final 7-8 outs, either because they can’t get an out, or they “play the percentages”.

But I think they had it a couple spring trainings ago. Have the batter keep one foot in the box, they pitcher can’t doodle around with the rosin bag. No need for pitch clocks, or limited mound visits. Pitcher gets back on the rubber, batter stays in the box...wonder why they stopped enforcing it.

College games last 2:30 - 2:45 and you have a lot more 10-8 type ball games. It's the same rules, mound visits being the exception. Not sure why MLB games take so much longer, but I'm not sure there is a rule you can implement to truly affect it, without fundamentally changing the game.

Bring back the 4-man rotation, outlaw body armor and wrist bands.

Ban the DH.

RE-instate Peter H. Rose!

part of it is that every player has to step out of the box after almost every pitch. Its also due to to TV commercials. You don't get a lot of televised college games so they don't have to deal with commercial breaks.
