With the 1st Pick - 1 Round draft Topic

Alrighty, I took everyone's owner rating after the Friday PM games, and have sorted them by the last 3 digits, so bradpark22's 52695 became just 695. I then sorted those from lowest to highest. I will set up the draft in the Draft Central Boards. We'll have a 12-hour clock. Since it's just 1 round, this gives everyone some time to work with. You have 12 hours from the time the last pick was made to make yours. Please sitemail the next couple of people in line so that they know they are on the clock or up soon. Since it's the weekend now, the 1st pick will not be due in until 12pm Monday. If 12 hours goes by and you haven't made your pick, you can be skipped and can make your pick at any time. So, without further delay, the draft order is:
1 metalmaster 20
2 dexter_honk 82
3 slimebot 98
4 cpetsche 129
5 kiteport 148

Good pick. No surprises there.

From the original rules post: "3. There will be a rookie salary cap. Your exclusive #1 overall pick is exempt from the cap, but everyone else must have a salary between $1 million and $6 million."

With the 23rd pick - My #1 overall won't be much of a pick (likely won't have a season outside the $6 million cap. So my question is this - can our first round pick be anyone drafted in the first round (not necessarily a #1 overall) that can be exempt from the salary cap?

After looking at it a bit deeper, I am lowering the salary cap to $5 million per player, but your #1 overall is still exempt.

I get what you meant originally as explained above - my point is....by pick 23, I'm getting stuck with say a Roman Hamrlik or Rejean Houle (not much of an exclusive)....I'm asking for an amendment to the rule that our exclusive pick can be any first rounder - not necessarily a #1 overall pick

But can the draft pick be a 1st rd pick- but not the overall 1st pick?

This one-round draft is only for #1 overall players. They are exclusive. Everyone else is fair game.

Okay - There are about 12-15 solid # 1 overall picks in NHL Draft History (with regards to WIS stats) then there is a noticeable drop-off....those at the end of the 1 round draft get no advantage to the 'exclusivity' of that pick. I'd much rather have an exclusive Marcel Dionne than Gord Kluzak but it is what it is. Thanks for the consideration anyways Sak - Let's get drafting fellas!

I have to chime in and say that I agree. After Lemieux, there's three or four other worthy picks like, Turgeon, Lafleur, and Perreault. After that... It's very thin. And none of them come close to Lemieux or Lafleur's salaries.

Seems very unfair for the later picks to basically get nothing of value.

I agree. I thought the exclusive pick could be any pick from the first round not just #1. I had my heart set on Yzerman or Lafontane who were 3 and 4 over all. I don’t wanna get stuck with dipetro or Stefan lol

I've gotta ask - since the league was first posted 4 months ago. (November 7)...why were none of these questions asked until the league was finally full and the draft announced? I mean, you had 4 months to read the rules, and re-read them, and re-read them again. If you were unsure of anything, you had 4 months to get clarification.

I guess we were as busy as you :)

To be honest Sak - I was with Edge - I always assumed that our Round 1 Draft was to pick an exclusive first rounder, so I never bothered asking. I only asked after the draft order was posted because that was when the league/draft was finally going to get going so I re-read the rules yesterday before making a draft list and sought clarification. I'm still in - just disagree with the fairness of the exclusive pick for those drafting in the second half of the first round. If I was given a top 5 pick - I would have still asked for clarification, wouldn't have complained though haha - but would still think it would be unfair to those drafting late.

I got lots of teams - I don't mind donating my $10 to someone with a top 10 pick.

I’m still in. It was just the Mario sweepstakes is all. Let’s see how this turns out. All though I would be upset if I was last
