Could I get away with not starting my promised start guys for one game? I have a Sim team with a million seniors tonight.

Sure. Most coaches say it's around 80% of the games need to be started to fulfill the promise. I'd recommend staying ahead of the curve tho. As in, don't sit the player the first 5 games and then start him in the remaining 21. Try to stay above the 80% so you have no issues, as some recruits could demand more than that

After the first season I believe.

I use 23 games out of the 26 regular season games as my benchmark and have never had trouble for starts. Your obligation to start the player ends at the start of the conference tournament.

Start of conference tournament they won't get mad if you don't keep your promises. However I do think if you are under delivering on promises, giving the player more starts/minutes does help.

This is correct. If you come up short after 26 games you can make up lost starts/minutes in the CT but benching the player in the CT won't hurt your promises.
