Check out the wheels on this pitcher!

And Dee Gordon stole 60 bases last season!
Bart adds the "fun" to "fundamentals" in that play. Gordon is a blur.

Albert had a fantastic run here in STL. But Mozeliak was right that his 2nd 10 years would not approach his 1st 10 years. 250 million would have been a lot of cabbage to spend...Moreno and his Angels had the big money to take a chance. He has been productive, but not close to what he did here...

Miles Mikolas has been a pleasant surprise. 6-0. 0.978whip, 6BB in 60 innings...very efficient in most of his starts. But I would have resigned Lance Lynn, cuz Wainwright was a big IF coming into this season. I think he's done.

Just read that prior to tonight's game in Houston the Astros will present Blue Jay Teoscar Hernandez with his 2017 World Series championship ring. I didn't know teams gave rings to players traded away during the season (Houston sent Hernandez to Toronto last July for Francisco Liriano).

Out of curiosity I looked up what Hernandez did for Houston before the trade. He appeared in one game, and did not have a plate appearance. He did however field one ball cleanly in 1.1 innings in right field.

Worth a ring? I guess so!

Was talking about this with a friend and he said it's more bizarre than I suspected.

Are the Astros being sarcastic with that ring?

These days generally anyone who appeared on the roster during the season gets a ring.

The Eagles gave rings to at least 3 office staff members who had left the organization prior to any operations related to the 2017/2018 season as a reward for long service to the organization. How could the Astros not give one to a guy who actually appeared on the field for them?

I don't know. Zero plate appearances, 1.1 innings in the field in an April game, and he nearly killed their best player. Seems nuts to me. But if that's the standard nowadays, it's the standard.

From Hernandez's perspective, how's he supposed to wear the ring? Ironically?

Kevin Pillar climbs the wall to rob Nick Castellanos on Canada Day

Play came in the 9th inning of 9-1 loss for Toronto, but still. And I liked how Castellanos clapped for the catch.

Thanks for posting that. I was listening to the game on the radio, and the announcers were going crazy about it. Nice to see what they were raving about. I wonder if Castellanos would have clapped had they been down by a run instead of way ahead?

Castellanos also hit a grand slam earlier in the game, so he was in a generous mood.

Sunday: 2-4, double, decides hitting is too easy, takes the mound, faces one batter, gets a ground ball out, strands the two runners he inherited

Phillies prospect Enyel De Los Santos was slated to be the International League's starting pitcher in the Triple-A All-Star Game on Wednesday. Instead, he joined the big club and made the most of an unexpected opportunity.

De Los Santos won his major league debut and Philadelphia got home runs from Maikel Franco and Odubel Herrera in a 7-3 victory over the New York Mets on Tuesday night.

Acquired from San Diego in December for shortstop Freddy Galvis, De Los Santos was also chosen to play for the World Team in Sunday's All-Star Futures Game.

It was the first time a Phillies starter made his debut against another starter in his first outing (Mets' Drew Gagnon) since Sept. 25, 1944, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. Back then, Charlie Ripple faced Charlie Gassaway of the Chicago Cubs at Shibe Park.

The New York Yankees Are a Moral Abomination

From Saturday's NYT. From the prose you might think it's a 19th century rant, although I don't think the writer would use the word rant; he'd say "virulent jeremiad" or "angry harangue" or some such. An entertaining read, no matter what your opinion of the Yankees, MLB, or society in general.

And if you clicked this thread for a clip, here's Aledmys Diaz making a fool of a Red Sox runner. Baseball could use more old timey John McGraw-style chicanery!
