Over the years I've tried using the LHP/RHP Specialist positions but the pitchers in those slots never get used in a game. Has anyone ever successfully used them and if so, how? I've left a pitcher in the slot for up to 20 or 25 games but sparky never uses them.

I've left guys there for 80 games and the only time they're used is if there's no one else available (except maybe mop-up). Despite the fact that it seems like it should be fairly easy to program, it doesn't work.

Ya I’m disappointed that the specialist role is used after all non-mopup pitchers.

I kinda stole a strat from Skunk. On some of my teams I have a everyone in my bullpen as a LHS or RHS.

Specialist setting doesn't work, don't use it. You could have a Lefty and a Righty at each role. Then L/R matchup will be a factor in choosing a reliever but not the only factor.

Almost all of my bullpens now are entirely LHS and RHS

skunk, I'm guessing that means you carry an extra arm or two on your staffs?

I like to max out or come close to the maximum allowed pitchers in draft center, and limit my offensive bench. My offensive bench is usually just 4 guys who can pinch-hit.

Have you noticed an increase in short (< 10 pitch) outings since making the shift?

Not so noticeable that it has changed my mind. I still give my relievers normal pitch counts based on their IP/G. My thinking is just that they are more likely to have the platoon advantage for at least the initial batter they come in to face, which over a long period of time will hopefully lead to better results. Even if the gain is only marginal, sometimes those can make a difference.

For example, I just had a $120M team finish its season. LHP/LHS Felipe Rivero appeared in 81 games with a 15/15 pitch count setting. He completed 76.1 IP. He faced just one batter in only 15 of those games. In 11 of those 15 games, he either recorded the last defensive out and wasn't needed for any additional batters, or was pinch-hit for before he could face another batter. Small sample size, but at least in this case, Rivero was legitimately pulled after facing only one batter a total of 4 times out of 81.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing that.
