We are about to start the draft off the clock. The long-running Real Life Progressive League is looking for a new owner for the Houston Astros. The Astros have 3 excellent starters in 1991, and two other solid starters, so innings are not an issue. In 1992 they have three solid starters. Their batting order includes 3B Terry Pendleton and SS Barry Larkin, but it's an off year for most. Later you will benefit from Gary Sheffield and Ray Lankford(both great starting in 1992), and Andres Galarraga (1993). The 1991 draft is full of great hitters (Bagwell, Ivan Rodriguez, Kenny Lofton, Jim Thome, Bernie Williams, Mo Vaughn) so that #5 pick will get you a superstar. Starting pitching in the draft is not superb, with the top 6 probably Mussina, Hentgen, Jeff Fassero, Juan Guzman, Denny Neagle, Darrly Kile).
This progressive league is like most, except that any player who started his career in a season is available to be drafted that season in the first round. In other words, in 1991, Royce Clayton, Vinny Castilla, Eric Karros and some others (none of the huge names in 1991) started their careers -- but they are not WIS eligible (just prospects) until 1992 or later. A prospect (we keep a separate draft list to make it easy) joins any players you have on the DL/IR until he is WIS eligible. If you select a prospect in the 1st round (meaning someone who first played in MLB in 1991, but wasn't WIS eligible), you can pick up your 25th player in the supplemental draft round, which occurs after the normal draft is finished. The rest is pretty standard, with 4 AAA that you select from the 1991 season, and a DH is used in the AL.
