Atlantic Division
milest's Wanchese Rebellion won the division with 78-79 Moses leading the
brigands with co-conspirators & 2nd rd gem (36. ouch!) 96-97 Scottie Pippen,
Unheralded 05-06 Gerald Wallace & overlooked 93-94 Mark Price. With one
year ABA wonder 73-74 Charlie Edge & overeating 94-95 Oliver Miller leading
the charge and winning the 67th edition of ODL. A solid bench and milest
precision like use of minutes proved to be the difference.
rubnsly's Snagglepuss Heavens to Mergatroid put on quite a show before the
"exit stage right". Of course 12-13 LeBron was anthropomorphic as the pink lion
with the upturned collar. His strong desire to be a stage actor will have to wait as
he plays center stage on all ODL courts. 96-97 Chris Webber garnered 6th man award
as Yakky Doodle. 07-08 Manu won an emmy as Argentinian Gaucho Huckleberry Hound.
00-01 Dikembe was busy swatting picnic basketballs as Yogi Bear. Young 71-72 Clifford
Ray was perfect in the role of over fouling Boo Boo. One year ABA wonder 73-74 Charlie
Edge was a solid contributor as Mr. Peebles. (I loved Magilla!) Richochet Rabbit, Atom Ant,
Quick Draw McGraw (El KaBong), Baba Looey, Squddley Diddley, Ranger Smith. No wonder
I never left the tv as a kid. Hanna - Barbera were incredibly talented animators!
seapilots's Person to Person is a lesson learned. Never feature The Rifleman 95-96 Chuck Person
on your team. lil 94-95 Johnny rotten Stockton is awesome. 05-06 KG is solid and worth the price
of a 2nd Rd. Big Ticket. Ray Allen, Shawn Kemp & LARRY SANDERS. This team under performed
or maybe just bad coaching.
pointfwd's South Beachers "how sweet it is!" 04-05 Shaq showed his acting metal this season as the
irascible Ralph Kramden. Undrafted 16-17 Kemba Walker was worthy as Ralph's wife Alice
(the best Alice was Audrey Meadows). 13-14 Goran Dragic wasn't completely tragic playing the role
of Trixie. He didn't get many lines due to the accent but he stood up well being married to 12-13
Omer Asik as the very funny Ed Norton (Art Carney was genius). P.J., Humphries, Brand had some
nice moments in revolving roles as Alice (Sheila McRae) & Trixie (Jane Kean). 16-17 Mike Conley
was a great discovery finding the Honeymooners lost episodes from the defunct DuMont Network.
Unfortunately the kinescopes were unwatchable after the first round exit.
IMO this was the toughest division this season. Where else will you compete against two HOF
old timers 60-61 Oscar & 61-62 Elgin with blue balls!
Central Division
benhoidal's Tubi daor unorthodox mix of outstanding interior defense and a dysfunctional 3 point
barrage 2392 3PA !OMG! tied for best regular season wins with 57. 10-11 Dwight with 76-77 Walton
are indeed worthy of High Valyrian. Wait, did I use that in the right context or was that just typical
unintelligible Bill misspeak? Did I ever tell you about the time at the Pyramids with the Dead?
No. I don't care. Now lets get to the treys. What a long strange arc it's been?
16-17 Otto Porter 424 3PA 43.4%, 14-15 Kyle Korver 537 3PA 49.5%, 16-17 Kyle Lowry 581 3PA 43.7%,
08-09 Jameer Nelson 203 3PA 41.9%, 04-05 Fred "ballhoig" Hoiberg 210 3PA 48.1%, little used
10-11 Hedo Turkoglu 113 3PA 40.7% couldn't help himself. Even Arvydas tried 113 3PA 32.7%.
A great season and great playoff run but not quite enough for a title. A fun team in any respect!
robusk's Jabbarsity Blues was a thoughtful and as usual well spoken and WINNING Jabbar led robusk
built team. Battle Tubi daor all season and ended up losing out on a 57 win tiebreaker. Tough brake!
First round byes are a necessity in the rough and tumble ODL. 70-71 KAJ is as good as it gets.
07-08 Chauncey Billups how good of a trade did the Nuggets make getting rid of AI and getting this guy!
Usually a 2nd rd. pick in the ODL and worth every penny very efficient. 97-98 Charlie Ward &
07-08 Jamario Moon are ODL gold. Solid role players, good D & very efficient. 12-13 Tyson Chandler is a
perfect compliment for Kareem. Solid bench and a great team.
copernicus's Team Haverchuck was an interesting compliment of players. 06-07 Jason Kidd isn't the usual
09-10 Kidd normally used. I could be wrong but I think that's his best year. Still a stud in the ODL and great
value for the money. 06-07 Tim Duncan he's slid to a late 1st to early 2nd rounder. If he's available in the
2nd that's THE definition of a steal. We'll see if any of the new 17-18 players knock him into the 2nd Rd.
I doubt it. 12-13 Serge at SF is very solid. 16-17 Patrick Beverly has some nice stats 399 3PA 37.6% wish
his ast% was higher tho. 16-17 Nikola Jokic a great throat lozenge on offense but a Jokec on defense. 35 Ugh!
A poor 3-7 finish doomed copernicus's playoff chances. Playing 2 50+ win teams didn't help on the other hand
the bottom three teams in the division were weak.
Midwest Division
gerryred's Old~Skool gets all A's putting this squad together. ABA scholar 72-73 Artis Gilmore passed all
ODL exams in the post. He's not considered among the elite Centers in this league sliding all the way to 22.
when Professor red astutely snagged the big man. 2nd rd pick 06-07 Steve Nash may have left some thinking
the old Prof might be loosing his edge. But his abysmal 35D didn't dissuade gerryred and Canadian born PG
who may have schoolboy looks but his passing, shooting and shrewd court savvy are all A's. A 3rd round
recollection of 68-69 Jerry Lucas was another brilliant pick. The instant recall of Lucas served this team well
as Old~Skool swept the ODL Knowledge Bowl on their way to the Western Conference Championship.
Getting 94-95 Gary Payton in the 4th rd. may be attributed to being in the right place at the right time.
Clever GM gerryred may prefer astute to better describe the selection. Payton's 90D covers Nash biggest
weakness like A GLOVE! 07-08 J.R. Smith is always a smart late round pick. Seldom used 85-86 James Worthy
made gerryred look like a genius going into the League Championship Finals. Old~Skool lost in a well played
7 game Finals with the final game going right down to the final bell. Unfortunately the game ended with Alice
singing Skool's out. It may be for the summer but there's a high probability gerryred will be at the top of the
ODL68 class.
24kpyrite's A Goat and a Ho Walk in a Bar proves whenever you have 89-90 MJ for a punch line the reaction is
seldom very funny for opponents. Funny thing is it's often tough to get a Jordan team deep into the playoffs.
24kpyrite's team lost in a tough 7 game first round series. 06-07 Amare Stoudemire gives Michael a great
low post scoring threat. There is no greater warrior than 69-70 Willis Reed but he's going to struggle against
the ODLs great array of post players. His D90 is fine but he'll lose the majority of rebounding chances.
93-94 Horace Grant will help with the rebounding and defense and is good to have on your side when the
bar room begins to brawl. 93-94 Nate McMillan & 97-98 Greg Anthony are solid low usage PGs next to MJ.
Jordans $10M luxury price tag makes him a tricky ODL first round pick. If his ast% were better he'd be a
dominating PG and easier to fill the SG with some much needed treys. That's the conundrum? It leaves room
for plenty to argue over, banter about and ponder when a Goat and a HO walk into a bar.
jkaye's Board Duds made it to the 2nd rd before getting the Milk Duds from Old~Skool. 91-92 Dennis Rodman
is another 1st round pick like MJ is too excellent to pass on. But he's a one dimensional rebounding and
defensive whirling dervish with a $9M price tag. He's a challenge to build a Championship team around.
99-00 Alonzo Mourning is tailor made for Dennis and a great fit down low. I'm not smart enough to grade
using 96-97 Anthony Mason at PF. Using Rodman at SF is a wise move and Mason has plenty of positives
at PF but that $8M price tag limits your bench options. 14-15 Klay Thompson was a great pick to go with
Dennis. Klay's deadly shooting 631 3PA 45.6% and clean game with D84 solid! 84-85 Maurice Cheeks
is another low usage PG who is efficient but his 21.9 ast% is too low. Not sure what the draft board was
looking like at that point but perhaps a better ast% and more of a 3PA threat at PG might have launched
the Board Duds into the West Finals and left Old~Skool with the melted Milk Duds.
