Where do you slot your worst hitter (non-P)? Why? Topic

Just throwing this out there, but out of curiosity, in what spot in the order do you tend to slot your worst hitter, that is not a pitcher, and why? Of course in the majors, tradition dictates that a manager almost always bats their pitcher 9th, and therefore, I guess, the worst non-P hitter 8th, but I always question whether or not this is the best strategy (for both the 8th and 9th slots).

Thoughts?

I'd say it would depend on the construction of your batting order as well as what you consider your "worst" hitter in relation to the rest of the guys in addition to the type of hitter he is. Admittedly this doesn't tell you a whole lot, but your question is a bit ambiguous without much information to go on.

Generally 7th is worst hitter, 8th is pitcher, and 9th is high OBP / low PA guy, for me

Pretty much the same for me adding I like my #9 guy to have some wheels, say 70+ speed. The rest of your question depends on many variables.

Yeah, no doubt, as long as I have an OBP guy to bat 9th. Otherwise it'd be worst hitter 8th, pitcher 9th

Yeah, I agree. Because of Jon Bois I now better appreciate the unique careers of Jeff Francoeur and Adam Dunn.

I think it has a lot to do with the PA each hitter has, there have been lineups I've ignored quality, just sorted by PA, as well as lineups I've gone all over the place... a hitter with more PA is going to be pressed to move higher up... I'll only not bat the pitcher 9th if I'm worried about PA for someone...

In a DH league it may make sense to put a high OBP hitter 9th in front of your best hitters if you have unbalanced hitting. In non-DH league you might bat your worst 7th if you have another weak hitter with more power to clear the bases before the easy out. In the Sim you might move fatigued hitters lower so they don't tire as fast. Lots of factors to consider in lineup constriuction, most of them making only a tiny difference.
Batting the pitcher 8th is Tony LaRussa nonsense, a gimmick to move up Mark McGwire and pad his stats. In the Sim it sometimes make sense for fatigue reasons if you have a pitcher who can hit.200 or so.

If PA are not an issue, I'd bat the worst hitter 9th and the 2nd worst hitter 8th.
