A Saphead Final Farewell

My 15th anniversary since joining WIS will arrive in September and sadly, like so many others, I feel my time here has run its course. I have made so many friends here, but sadly, due to geography, have only had the opportunity to meet a few.
Many years ago I started a group of special owners called the Sapheads (my late father’s term of endearment) and the membership in that group reached double figures at one point. But over the years the numbers have dwindled to about a half dozen. So to honour those who remain, and to use up all of my remaining credits, I have contacted 6 current Sapheads and asked them to make a theme for their division. On June 20th my credits expire, so any $$$ remaining and the league founder’s credit will go to the Cup winner and I shall disappear into cyberspace forever (or at least until the dream of a hockey dynasty materializes).
Here are the divisions and the parameters for each. All divisions will have a salary cap of $115 million, no lasting injuries or suspensions, no ML’ers, no shootouts, and no waiver wire, and no trades.

Cpetsche Division (Patrick) – 1946 Theme
Each player on the team must: represent the numbers 19 or 46 in their stat line (choose from G, A, PTS, PIM; W, L, GAA for Goalies) OR be born in 1946.

Zero Division (Smythe) – Old Fogies Theme
Draft only players from 1917-18 to 1948-49.

Bradpark Division (Bailey) Brad Park Theme
All players must have played with Brad Park. Twisting allowed.

Beeb Division (Adams) Original Six Theme
Draft only players that played on Original 6 teams. No Twisting. You can only draft up to 4 players max from each Original 6 team and you can only draft 1 player from any decade.

Example: you can only draft 4 Montreal Canadiens. If you draft the 76/77 LaFleur, you cannot use another 70's Canadien. Decades would run from 00-01 year to the 09-00 year (Ex. the 70's would be the 70-71 season through the 79-80 season)

Additionally, you cannot have more than one player per team as a scrub or 2nd or 3rd goalie. In other words, you cannot draft 3 Maple Leafs as your scrubs, you can only have 1 Maple Leaf as a scrub. Additionally, if you draft a Maple Leaf as a scrub, you cannot draft a Maple Leaf as a backup or 3rd goalie, or if you have a Maple Leaf as a back up or 3rd goalie, you cannot draft a Maple Leaf as a scrub. Simply put, you must have 3 players from each Original 6 club in your top 18 players!

SAK Division (Norris) - 1st NHL game Theme
Find the box score from the 1st NHL game you ever attended (https://www.nhl.com/info/all-time-nhl-playoff-results). You can only use players who appeared in the box score, and must use at least 10 players from each squad. Twisting allowed. Use the arena the game was played in.

Here's mine: Bruins/Flyers at the Boston Garden on 12/2/1978

Chuck Division (Bavis) – Canuck Division
All players must have been born in Canada.

Pick a division and draft away. Any questions please contact me or the person who created the division/theme.

*All divisions have a salary cap of $115 million, no WW, no ML'ers, no trades, no shootouts, and no lasting injuries or suspensions*

Ok, Mike... I'll take a team in CP's division.

A question though concerning the GAA for keepers. Would 19 & 46 become 1.90 & 4.60 to accommodate that stat?

If Gollum joins SAK's division, I have one question:
On December 19, 1917, four teams of the National Hockey League (NHL) play in the fledgling league’s first two games. At the time of its inception, the NHL was made up of five franchises: the Canadiens and the Wanderers (both of Montreal), the Ottawa Senators, the Quebec Bulldogs and the Toronto Arenas. The Montreal teams won two victories that first day, as the Canadiens beat Ottawa 7-4 and the Wanderers triumphed over Toronto 10-9.

the question: were you at the habs v OTT or Wanderers v Toronto?

  • I think using only the digits after the decimal will apply, so neither would work. 2.46 or 3.19 would work fine.

Since one was an afternoon game, I got to attend both!

I will try Sak's division - I didn't see my first NHL game until I was 14, but it didn't disappoint! Saw Yzerman score and Gerrard Gallant beat up Joel Otto!
