The More you Lose, The More you Spend Topic

This league is a fairly standard twist league. Pick a single season for any team in the WIS database, and you can use any season for any player who played for that team that year (but no clones).

The catch is this - your salary cap is equal to the number of losses that your team had that year.

So you can pick the 1962 Mets and get a $120 mil salary cap. But the team was so bad, you probably won’t be able to spend that much. Or you could take the 1927 Yankees and have a lot of stars to choose from, but you will only have $44 mil to spend. So choose your team wisely.

Sitemail me or post below to reserve a team, and I'll sitemail you the league #.

General restrictions: Because of the theme, no WW, AAA, injuries or clones. No DH. Use the ballpark your team played in. Since each salary cap will be different, I will verify before we start. We will allow the use of sub-$300k players from any season.

I'll check this out. Like the out-of-the-box thinking in setting this up. Need to do a bit of research but feel there may be a few diamonds out there?

No 300K exception? So you cannot take a team if it has less than 25 eligible players? What's the rule on combined seasons?

I considered a 300k exception, but I like the idea of having to conform to the theme. I often think constraints foster creativity.

But you make a good point about older teams not having 25 eligible players. I admit I was mostly focused on newer teams, but I also like the idea of owners choosing old teams. Since we're early in the process, I'm willing to change this one. I don't think it will have much effect on the competition. I'll add it to the rules and let the current owners know.

I'm not sure what you mean by combined seasons. Do you mean drafting from two different seasons, or do you mean for individual players with split seasons in the database? Or something else?

For teams that played fewer than 162 games, will the number of losses be extrapolated out to a 162 game schedule?

That is a good question. Just like the Maris record doesn't have an asterisk, I'm going to say that no, I'm choosing not to prorate the losses. It's doable, but it could potentially cause confusion. You are free to take a pre-expansion team, but the salary cap will still equal their total losses.

"Combined Season" explanation

A player who played on more than one team in a single season typically have four versions (Team A partial stats, Team B partial stats, Team A combined stats, Team B combined stats). So if I pick Team A where one of the players on my team also played for team B during that season, am I allowed to use the Team A combined stats version or do I have to use their Team A partial stats version?

Sometimes a player didn't get enough PA's for both teams to have four versions, so a player could have Team A partial, Team A combined, Team B combined. Or a player could have too few PA with each team, but enough for just two combined seasons.

Yes, that's what I thought you were getting at. For this league, the rule will be that if a player appeared for your team in your season, you are free to use any season in the database of that player. No restrictions on teams or partial/full seasons.

Toss me in with the 2012 Red Sox.

I'll try the '65 Cubs.

No DH I assume?

1992 Dodgers (63-99)

And to clarify, can we use anyone who appears on the BB Reference roster for our team?
