I think that part is just the nature of the beast. You have to find a way to beat the teams in your division.

As for adjusting playoff points, is there a way to weight playoff points so that weaker teams that advance get more of a bump? For example, an 85-win team beating a 105-win team in the playoffs would count for more than the other way around.

I'd be interested in getting some more opinions on that. It's interesting, but may be too gimmicky to implement.

Would it help to have a structured points reset, like I think they still do in NASCAR? Where the points leader resets to xx, then 2nd is automatically 5 points behind, 3rd 10 behind, etc. whatever the right number is but using that concept. You always have a gap above and below you to start R2. But you make it possible for someone in the 20s to get up there if they perform really well in R2.

I'm intrigued by the idea of some kind of "upset points" for the playoffs, but how do you decide?

If you have an owner seeded 64th who has a 105-win team, and they beat an owner who is seeded 3rd but has a 88-win team, is that an upset?

I'm opposed to gimmick points. And I think the playoffs are already overweighted, 5 points bonus every round is too much, the winner already has the opportunity to play for more W's.

I'm opposed to weighting playoff points for "underdogs".........I think most could agree that some teams get lucky to get into the playoffs - then having them get access to more playoff points than a team that has proven itself over 162 in what will be a crapshoot of a 5 games series is moving this in the wrong direction.

Love all these thoughts. I'm going to play around with options during the offseason and see what the results would be this year and use last year's data too.

It also looks like Donburgh is going to set a new record for lowest regular season points to make Round 2 (he had 487)

The people most in danger of being passed by one of the three mentioned above are ejstockman and bothways. Both have no playoff teams left.

ej is in 23rd place with 535 points, and bothways is in 21st with 538. Our original projected cut was 541.

Last callout is that there's a chance newarkwilder misses out on Round 2 due to the 2 penalty points he accumulated. That would be awful.

I have a feeling Brian is going to pass me for #1. I am behind in all three of my remaining LCS. It will come down to Round 2 either way.
