[CANCELED] Increasing Salary Draft, 2018 Topic

Actually I’m no longer 100% sure that there are fewer players than picks. It’s really close and I don’t have computer access to check carefully. But it’s the safety point right now isn’t much over Felix.

Now a few more picks like HoJo and the safety point will rise. It’s not inevitable that there will be a crisis. But it all depends on some players being willing to have a roster under $140M.

Ok, with some reticence, we’re going to cancel this. I’ll send out a sitemail and post a new theme tonight.

Thanks for bearing with me through this. This was not a guaranteed result but it was certainly, clearly, a possible result that we can no longer recover from.

There was plenty of warning about exploding salaries. too many people chose to ignore it. Penalty points were there to prevent runaway salaries. Would be less of a problem if the penalties weren't so outrageously large.

If you want an alternative to cancelling the whole damn thing ozo, just allow owners to pick any player they want that is remaining *AFTER* the draft is over with no penalty.

If we're still drafting, I will take 1914 Ray Caldwell. Would have had a great 110 mil league team.

Both of rbow923 and buddhagamer's ideas are good, and together they could work. Is it worth salvaging if the penalty points are reduced? Maybe just one point, so the earlier 15 point penalty is just 3 points, for example?

That would open up a whole other can of worms with regard to fair play and the purpose of the theme.

We’re going to cancel.

or rather than penalty points there are bonus points for those who make it through successfully without needing to skip a round, and if there's no player available to an owner they just wait until the end like buddhagamer suggested and select from the remaining players, perhaps in order of salary cap?

I'm among those who'd like to see this play out, though be separated from the WISC. A lot of owners have put too much time in to not see the train completely go off the tracks at this point. How much carnage will there be?? Maybe we could source enough reward points to sponsor anyone who wants to bail out?

Just to show how widespread this was going to be by my preliminary examination the following owners were likely to get penalty points due to not having sufficient hitters (12) with only 1 hitter still available above the 8.5M threshold (this would likely be the MINIMUM, as other owners would likely get hit later by pitching/cap issues).

With only 9 hitters presently: jfranco77 (last salary: 1904 Mordecai Brown $8708490)
With only 10 hitters: crystalao (last salary: 2009 Tim Lincecum $8869602), jmissirlis (last salary: 1953 Al Rosen $12174776)
With only 11 hitters: buddhagamer (last salary: 1917 Walter Johnson $12558905), Humdogs (last salary: 1989 Howard Johnson $9261364), mdc2276 (last salary: 1961 Norm Cash $10581600).

By my count that's 6 owners,1/4 of the final 24....

By my count that's 7 owners, almost 1/3 of the final 24....
Griffin was actually my 12th hitter

apologies, I counted Reb Russell as a pitcher and I see you took a hitter season. My mistake.

Anyway, I'm willing to abide with whatever ozomatli decides is in the best interest for everyone involved including continuing this draft and playing it as an "extra" to the WISC if everyone is willing (ponying up for 7 teams instead of 6).
