Oh, I could go on all day. A long time ago, I walked away from an offer to attend Juilliard.

All of it is personal taste, of course, but here's a brief list of my favorites from all periods. Vivaldi - The Seasons. Bach - sonatas, symphonies or the Brandenburg Concertos. Beethoven - anything. Dvorak - symphony #8 and 9, String Serenade. Chopin - any piano music. Debussy - most piano music. Tschaikovsky - anything. Rachmaninov - most anything. Strauss II - if you like the Vienna Waltz. Holst - The Planets.

That's a Top 10. There are a ton more.

I believe it because I do too. His middle to late symphonies are wonderful. Austria-Hungary was a poorly-run empire but they had some serious musical/intellectual talent.

Legend says that Symphony #1 (Titan Symphony) is borrowed liberally by the origial Star Trek theme. I don't know if it's true. I generally limit myself to symphonies #5-8. Why re-invent the wheel when you can simply borrow great music from the past for your TV show.

thats interesting..i heard it from a different symphony...a later one.
i love the dark overtones of mahler.

Staying a little more on topic, one of my good friends just released his new album. Here is the feature track. You guys will probably not enjoy it very much, but oh well. I'm going to make you listen anyways.
