Great thread. Dougpalm also deserves attention. He’s been a consistent winner. He also helped in a progressive in which we smoked out a cabal of cheaters.

thanks doublet.....please give more details about the flushing of the cheaters.......i will absolutely look into dougpalm.
ive seen commishes in baseball and basketball condone cheaters and refuse to do a thing about it....what a shame for the game.

I was asked to share some memories. Here’s a start.

When I started in December 2001, introduced by real-life college buddy kuff6, the career record for sim league titles was six. It tests my memory but I’m 90-ish percent sure that record was jointly held by sford and tracyr.

Here’s a cross-post from the “tough divisions” thread, though it’s not really a cross-post because I don’t know how to do that, nor even if it’s a thing. So it’s more of a cut-and-paste. It’s a league from 2005 in which seventeen of twenty-four teams finished .500 or better, and three lost 105 or more (including a nearly heroic 2-160).

There are some great owners there including the fabled ligapelota. Thehalls4549 strikes a chord in my memory as a legend of the early-mid aughts as well.

To answer dino’s Question: the progressive was in something like its 15th season and a couple of weird trades occurred. I looked up all the Owners’ WIS entry dates to start with and found a pattern. Several had started WIS in the same two-day period and whoever did it entered either no profile info or colleges in the same part of the country. Then I had to look for clues in transactions records for the current season. (I think there was no way to check past seasons in trades.) After I called them out in the league forum, management of three or four teams just ceased. For the next season, dougpalm agreed to commish and we replaced the obvious cheaters and went on for a few more seasons. If I recall correctly, the league died after dougpalm and I dropped it.
The worst cheater was an owner who claimed to be a woman named Jane. I think she was the league founder. I don’t know if she created the other users or if she just joined with “them” along the way. She built up a strong team over several seasons and won championships. I had an ongoing site-mail chat with her and was quite taken in until she made a phenomenally bogus, self-serving trade. Her responses to my complaints were unsatisfying and that’s when I began investigating the owner records.

there was one guy who created leagues and he owned all of the teams and created crazy records.

That would be clk0619. From what i recall, he came into some money and decided to try some crazy stuff by playing all the teams in a league.
