What does it take to get into D1 coaching? I have been trying for the Wisconsin job in Bryant and I always get denied. I have a better win percentage that the current coach and as many conference championships. Not taking anything away from the guy who got the job but come on.

It's not solely based on win %. Husker has over 300 wins and DIA experience. Generally a DIA coach will beat out a DIAA coach unless the later has had outstanding recent success. If you've never coached DIA before I strongly recommend going to a mid major first to get your feet wet. The BCS schools (non-elites) are the toughest level to keep a job.

As Hookem says, go pick up a midmajor, win some CCs and bowl games and you'll be in a good position for Wisconsin or other D1 BCS programs.

As a Wisconsin coach in another world, I don't think you're ready yet. It's a really tough job and 8-7 in D1AA isn't going to cut it. Get to a Final 4 in D1AA or win a D1 mid major conference first.

Agree with tmelonhead. Are you eligible for a D1A Job? It's been a while since I was at D1AA, but 77-51 doesn't seem to be enough to move up.

My guess is WINs. I was 98-14 and 4 CCs and wasn't Qualified for a BCS job. Had to move to Kent State first before moving to Maryland. I think the magic number is 85-101 depending on CCs and NCs! You'll probably need to be in the upper 90s to move to a Mid Major.

It is somewhere around 100-110 wins necessary in order to be qualified for D1A at all.
