Welcome to the first FC Dynasty Cup. This is an inter-world competition currently between worlds 87 and 91 but may be opened to all worlds in future tournaments. As the tournament grows, modifications to the format and rules may occur but for the inaugural competition, the following format and rules will apply. Best of luck to all teams in their quest for the FC Dynasty Cup!
TOURNAMENT FORMAT
The tournament will be split into multiple stages, a group play followed by knockout rounds. Teams will be eliminated at the end of each stage until a champion is crowned. This champion will lay claim to glory and shall have bragging rights over all teams in both worlds for a very short period of time.
Group Stage
Each team is initially assigned to a group. Group play will consist of a round robin, with each team playing home and away against the other teams within their group. Points will be based on the following - 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, 0 points for a loss
The top two teams in points out of each group will advance to the knockout round with tiebreakers being decided in the following order - goal differential and then away goals. If the teams are still tied, there will be a coin flip.
Knockout Stage
The quarterfinals will consist of the following match-ups. Each will be a home/away set with the winner being based on aggregate goals. If aggregate goals are tied, away goals will be used as a tiebreaker. If a tie still exists, the higher seed will host the lower seed in an additional game. If that game is tied, the lower seed will then host and so on.
A1 vs B2
B1 vs A2
C1 vs D2
D1 vs C2
The semifinals will consist of the following match-ups. Each will be a home/away set with the winner being based on the same criteria as the quarters. If an away goals tie occurs between two same-seeded teams (i.e. B2 vs D2,) the host of the additional game will be decided by coin flip.
A1/B2 plays C1/D2
B1/A2 plays D1/C2
Championship Round
The finals will match the two remaining teams in a home and away series, using the same tiebreaker criteria as in the semis.
TOURNAMENT RULES
Games should be scheduled within a reasonable amount of time for both group play and the knockout rounds. Any team that has not received a challenge by an opponent should either post a request on the world page or here for an inter-world match-up. At the tournament director's discretion, all games that have failed to be scheduled/played will be deemed a 0-0 draw so that the stage can be completed. Teams that are withdrawn due to a failure to schedule cannot advance and will be awarded no points for drawn games. Future tournaments will set firm deadlines for the completion of each stage.
