I see that Jim O'Rourke caught 1 game for the 1904 NY Giants at age 53, going 1 for 4, after being retired for 11 seasons. He broke in during the 1872 season.

Has there been anyone older to play in a game?

Minnie Minoso was 54 years 311 days old when he played for the White Sox on October 5th, 1980.

Minoso went 0-1 in ph role.

Now i'm wondering who might try to break that record? Who is in good enough shape at 55 or older that could pinch hit? Minoso did it to play in yet another decade...

He does. Supposedly 59 at the time but nobody knows for sure. Pretty sure that Charlie O'Leary is the 2nd oldest (and the oldest position player) at 58. My favorite is Nick Altrock. He hurt his arm and retired after a short career in 1909. Sort of. Kept pitching from time to time (over the next 15 years!) and was in his mid-40's when he pitched his final game in 1924. But he still wasn't done, continuing as a very occasional pinch-hitter until his final game in 1933 at the age of 57... 3rd oldest player in history and holder of the unofficial record of appearing in the most seasons in which he played in the fewest games.
