Anybody redshirted a sophomore? Topic

There are 4 guys in my freshman class I'd like to redshirt. Since I obviously can't do that, I'm thinking of redshirting one of them next year as a sophomore. Anybody have experience with that? Did they get mad and lose work ethic? Transfer? Or did it turn out ok? Thanks in advance.

I don't know if they were mad, but they do take a WE hit.

Booo. Thanks, though.

Boo to the WE hit, and boo to that joke, Mojo. Wish I had a tomato.

Ive done it to try and space out imbalanced class sizes -- you lose some WE as a soph, but its not too dramatic. I want to say in D3 I had a 35ish WE player lose 8 WE or so? It's been a minute but i think those numbers are relatively accurate

I might go ahead and take a hit of 8 or so points to even out the depth chart. One of those deals where I didn't need the position but couldn't pass up the best player available.

I've redshirted a Senior before. To make up for the idiot running the team before I took over. I saw that I wouldn't have a prime back the next year, so I redshirted the second best back I had on the team, which was a Senior. He took a major WE hit, but the next year he was the prime back, and was the Offensive MVP of the league.

The one thing I am serious about this game is you must always Think Outside The Box. (there is nothing wrong with what we know works but sometimes there is a better way).

Work Ethic doesn't mean anything if the player is already good.

Yep. Same goes for potential.

I had a huge freshman class last season (41 recruits) the plan was to redshirt 3 frosh in season one and two sophs in season two. So I saved the biggest work ethic guys to RS for their sophomore season. I had one guy with 68 WE lose 10 WE so still 58 and the other went from 58 WE to 49 WE. Both have high potential and are still showing some good gains. Of course I RS them after the exhibition games. This is at DIII.
