I am curious what opinions are on this starting pitcher IFA

Is the control just too low?

Hitters will hit less than .200 against him, but he’ll walk just as many as he strikes out. Entirely up to you if you feel like taking it on.

He will be a headache. Lots of walks which will kill his ERA in the end. Not worth a ML spot

I’d keep him for sure. Just put him in low pressure spots (SuB) and you should be fine. Would suck if he walked in the tying or winning run in an important game.

This post has a rating of , which is below the default threshold.
IMO his other numbers are so good that the low control rating should not be enough to disqualify him as a ML pitcher. He could easily be used in a tandem set-up with a hook setting of 4 or 5. Or as hockey said, in low pressure situations; SuB, Mop up, etc.

I said "if you feel like taking it on." Here's what I mean - you'd want that guy to succeed. His other ratings mean you want to see him in the majors. But you'd have to live with getting him through the minors first, and then figuring out exactly what his settings should be.

I've never used a pitcher in the majors with less than 40 Control. They are capable of short term impact but not usually as regulars... SU with high pull rating, long relievers. Checked my current pitchers and realized that I'm not even using pitchers with 30-ish Control higher than AA.

Concidentally, one of my AAA SPs had a game today... 50 Control... 6 BB, 8 K, 8 hits and they got to him at the end so he went to his full pitch count... 121 pitches and he didn't even get to six innings. That's the other thing; these pitchers hit huge pitch counts with all the BBs and Ks.

Can some one show me a pitcher with under 35 control who has a whip under 1.50 in the majors please.

They're lucky if they can do it at AAA.

Not a full season yet, but even crazier is that he pitches in Colorado.

1.60 + whip

And that's pretty much the only way the numbers can look that good, if that kind of pitcher is only facing max five hitters a game. It's a run of fortunate results. And his WHIP is still too high relative to his OAV.

I'm not recommending him just noting him. And his whip this season *so far* is only 1.30 or something. I'm curious as to how he'll end the season.

Some seasons ago I lost an RP like that in Rule 5. 41 Control and 79/81 Splits. Ended up having a useful career, actually two excellent seasons, but also a few terrible ones where the walks and HRs caught up to him.
