wanted to remember Bill Buckner who was a great player. He should be remembered more than just for one bad play in the playoffs

As a 50 year old Cub fan I remember Bill as being my first favorite player when I started watching games in the late 70's. I never warmed up to Leon Durham who took over first after Bill was traded to the Sox for Eckersley...funny how I was annoyed 3 years later when Eckersley was traded to the A's for more or less a bag of baseballs RIP Billy Buck

Advanced metrics make Buckner look like a lesser player than he seemed to be when I watched him play. His OPS+ for his career is 100, meaning he was a dead-average replacement-level player statistically. All he did was hit and hit and hit, mostly singles and doubles, but in that era you always saw him in the top 10 in the league in batting. Never walked more than 40 times in a season, but never struck out more than 39.

This game skews your perception somewhat, because my eyes back then said Buckner was a guy you were happy to have in your lineup. Always gave you good at-bats.

Glad to see you honoring him here. If I have time (doubtful, but maybe) I'll try to put a team together.

just dropped a team in, tough draft, was fun to assemble a team (even had a $1m+ left over).

on a side note, I really shouldn't have included the Kansas City Athletics, but I did, and we have 7 in league now, so it will stay as it is
