24k: Thanks for doing this evals. It really does a lot to make this league cool. Super appreciate it brother.

" I have been looking at your table trying to determine which Pippen you are using. With the drafting of both Hill and Vince, is Pippen spending time at SF? If he spends half his time at SF, I think I like this team less, mainly just due to boards."

I thought the same thing but I really wanted Buck Williams due to the shooting, lowish fouls and positional flexibility. So I switched from 96-97 Pippen to 94-95 Pippen (who has 17/6.5 in rebounding). He turns it over more and shoots it slightly worse. But the shooting was offset by the gain from Buck against the other price conscience options I had available to me (along with his other benefits). Plus that Pippen is 6 points better on D. With that I end up about average on rebounds which is good enough I guess.

Overall, your assessment of my team is slightly more optimistic than my own. Thanks for the time.

Pg: Curry
SG: Dunn (82-83)
SF: Hawkins (this is the 73-74, 2500-minute season)
PF: Noah/O’Quinn
C: Boozer/Valanciunas

I think I’m going to be short on usage. May be in the penalty for a lot of the minutes Curry sits. If I had Vucevic instead of Boozer, that extra usagetier could make all the difference, even though it’s barely a percentage point different in terms of usage. My team only has about 9400 total points as drafted, which experience tells me is low, particularly since we’re pretty high efficiency.

The goal was obvious, though - surround Curry with posts who should make him better (Noah brings the assists, Boozer the efficient interior scoring to balance out Curry) and wings who can defend and won’t take shots away on offense (Hawkins, Dunn). Valanciunas and O’Quinn are like-for-like backups for Boozer and Noah. Backups for Hawkins and Dunn are easy. But this team is only OK defensively and on the boards, so if usage penalties pull me back to the middle of the pack offensively, it will be another meh season.

“dBKC - Rudy Gobert, Nikola Jokic, Ben Simmons, Jrue Holiday, Bobby Jones, Andre Igoudala, Ryan Anderson
Final Synopsis - Your starting 5 is intriguing, but I do have have concerns that when AI comes in your usage might drop off into a penalty. Now if only you could get Andre and Ryan to come in the game at the same, but WIS loves screwing up bench spots. That's really my only fuss with the end result. Edit - I saw your lilineup projections, I think usage is going to be an issue and I don't like Anderson at the 4.
Suggested Team Name - Jrueth or Gobert?”

Apprecute the feedback and all the work that goes in to evals. Ryno at the 4 is my solution to the problem you posed (having enough usage at all times). PG is always going to be one of Ben Simmons or Jrue and PF will always be one of Jokic or Ryno, that way I should always have enough usage on the court. We’ll see how that goes though.

Simmons/Jrue
Iggy/Jrue
Bobby Jones/role player
Jokic/Ryno
Gobert/decent backup

mptrey - Kevin Durant, Hassan Whiteside, Mike Conley, Chris Webber, Nate McMillan, Marcin Gortat, Royce O'Neale
Final Synopsis - I really like the trio you started with and I got concerned with the Webber pick. You didn't really need the usage and I was worried Webber was drafted to be a 4. With Webber at the 4, I fear you will lose a lot of rebounding battles. Then again, maybe I am wrong, maybe Nate is Conleys backup and Webber is the three, in which case I like better. If this is the case, your scoring will majorly suffer with Nate and Royce on the floor. Not sure why Royce was drafted, he was yours after the draft.

By the time the fifth round was over, I had my ideal bench set up and none of the 7 players I had were ODL staples so I had to take a couple people no one else would take, and love the nearly 20% DReb Royce gives at SG. Maybe that's not a good sign but I like my team overall.

I decided to take the gang rebounding approach as opposed to loading up on a couple high rebounding big men like I usually do. Nobody on my roster has under 13% DReb other than Conley and another low minute guard and I should never run into usage penalties with the way I'm planning to set my lineup.

Btw, thanks for the writeups 24k and the numbers robusk. Much appreciated, and both very valuable as drafting tools.

"tarheel1991 - Steph Curry, Joakim Noah, Carlos Boozer, Jonas Valanciunas, Kyle O'Quinn, TR Dunn, Connie Hawkins
Final Synopsis - Curry is a fun player to draft around. You literally get to cross off one stat off your need list as soon as you draft him. Unfortunately, I do not think you filled the holes around him. The next 4 picks were associated the the front court and the last two left the back court desiring more. I think this team will struggle to be competitive.
Suggested Team Name - Curry wishes this was the 12-13 Warriors"

Fair enough, but I didn't want or (and in my opinion, don't need) any more than Dunn and Hawkins on the wings next to Curry. They're very salary-cap friendly and can help rebound Curry's missed threes while providing supplemental assists help to Curry and Noah. As I said above, I think the question is whether I have enough usage. If I do, not many teams can match the efficient 1-2 scoring punch of Curry and Boozer.

If nothing else Steph should see a fair number of double teams, maybe I can learn more about how that neglected function actually works.

Is that a pure cost decision on those Magic/Bird choices?

Not for Magic. Originally I just took him for fun, was not part of my plan. But when Boerwinkle was available it opened up taking a less ast season of Magic that has better efg, better rebounding and D. All things being equal I'd typically take 89-90 with some perimeter shooting - but another thing I'm trying is not getting so hung up on 3's. I think i've passed on better players and better versions of players in the past because I feel hostage to 3's. So wanted to try pushing the envelope a bit. When I was able to get Kemp with good usage, along with Bird, felt I could use the version of Magic with better D, reb, efg and one of the lowest TO seasons. Getting JR Smith sealed it. Not a ton of 3's, but willing to try that.

Bird was a little money decision. Would prefer 87-88 with higher usage typically, but again hoping I have enough overall usage and get slightly better D and assists.
