New Salary Cap Progressive (Waitlist) Topic

I usually prefer single season progressive's but it will be impossible with what I have outlined below. The basic premise is that I tried to craft something that should kill everything that annoys me about progressives. If you don't join, you are a coward.
  1. Double progressive: starting 1976-77 and 1998-99 (prevents me from ever having to deal with two instances of the same player); if there is a restart it will go back to the exact same years
  2. Minimum salary = $38M; Maximum salary = $44M
  3. Lottery for the first four picks using the same odds as the 2019 NBA draft.
  4. Only current year’s picks may be traded and they can only be traded after the 60th game of the season has completed. No future draft picks can be traded.
  5. No trades may occur during the inaugural draft or prior to the first season beginning.Trades may not begin until game 60 of season 1.
  6. 19,200 minutes floor which is easy to achieve in a double progressive, especially when people are dropping lots of players. Outside the floor, owner will be ineligible for the lottery. If the pick is traded to another owner, the lottery penalty is traded with it. If you come up with some other suspect reading of the rules, I will probably kill that too.
  7. In cases were there are multiple options for a player's given season (partial seasons), you must always use the most expensive season. I know this seems overly stringent but it accomplishes a couple goals. First, it prevents some genius from hoarding a bunch of players like this to manipulate the rules and deprive resources from minute/cap hungry franchises. Second, it makes it much, much easier for me to administrate a reasonably complex league.
  8. There will be a three person trade committee than can overturn any trade within 24 hours of its submission. I won’t be on it.
  9. Don’t do crap like play people out of position etc. I will be pretty heavy handed with throwing people out of the league for crappy behavior.
  10. Keeper lists lock at the start of the draft board getting published. If you have to drop mid-draft to satisfy a trade, you will get slotted into the last pick of the draft as listed at that time. Don’t worry about regular IR. I will track your keepers. You can put anyone with 500 or less minutes on the IR for a max of two IR slots per team. IR players count against the cap.
  11. I will try to post the totals and salaries for all the teams and players in the forum prior to kicking off the league to create visibility.
  12. If someone joins the league that I feel does not have the requisite experience, other coaches will be banned from trading with them for some specified amount of time.

How is the salary max going to be 44M?

Not sure I totally understand the question, but it is a league level constraint. You will have to be choosy about which players you keep to stay under the cap.

So then how are you only going to have two rounds of picks each season?

Can be filled with add/drop players at the end of two rounds, similar to free agency (just with the best of those being resolved via the draft).

Okay. I think 44 mill is a great idea, but I think you are greatly underestimating how important the draft will be each season with these constraints.

I’ll join.

I don't know why you might think that?

I think draft will be crucial as well add/drop. We may to ultimately add more structure around add/drop but it should be fun. I think the trade window will be cool for the draft because people will actually have a much greater sense of their pick value when negotiating trades too.

I guess I’m just imagining teams keeping 8 or 9 players max. Maybe some teams only 4 or 5, by years 3 or 4

I’m flexible on the draft to add drop process. I think we can come up with something. I just don’t want an extra long offseason due to epic drafts.
