In a thread called Delusion, this conversation is becoming funny. To quote the great George Orwell - his definition of a liberal: "a power worshipper without power." Just because of the big D, and a bucking jackass and the color blue doesn't mean dems are a better lot. We all have the inalienable human right to be ignorantly self-righteous and it is a right most Americans exercise, with vigor, on a daily basis.

im a jackass then for seeing stark stark stark differences and knowing the dem way of thinking and living is superior.
you are saying that doctors are self righteous for warning people about their health.
dems give the clarion call.
it is assinine to call them self righteous for not being humble when it comes to being brutally honest
a right and a wrong dont equal 2 wrongs.

in every society there are visionaries and reactionaries and impediments.
in recent times we were the ones to warn on climate change and to elect obama and we are the ones who have warned about trump and history will continue to be kind to the democrats.

This isn't targeted at you miami, but I find it funny when conservatives pick and choose parts of Orwell's ideology as if he agrees with them and is attacking liberalism from the right.

The man was a socialist. No doubt, he would be a Sanders/Warren supporter.

I'm saying most of this with an absolute straight face but in a tongue-in-cheek manner. I fully expect, when the dems retake power into their greedy, authoritarian, dirty, power-intoxicated, self-righteous and corrupt hands that they will target people like me to be an unperson. I will only be saved from that actual fate due to my complete unimportance.

Come on, dino. We all need to be able to take as well as receive around here. I never intentionaly try to insult individuals because I like all of you...except doug. He's a *****.

Eh, it would be fine if it was but I'm not a conservative. I just hate both parties in almost equal measures. I also am amused when conservatives use Orwell to prove a point. Orwell hated Communism, not Socialism.

By the way, Orwell was a great socialist (like Marx, no sarcasm) because he maintained a sharp mind and independent thought.

im not personally offended...not a bit.
when one pitcher is always throwing the ball into the dirt and the other is usually around the plate they are both pitchers but qualitatively different.

I'm being too loose with my terminology. Orwell didn't hate Communism, he hated what Lenin bastardized it into.

I don't think anyone is saying there are no differences between the Republicans and the Democrats. I know I'm not. Of course there are differences, but in my opinion, one of the main goals of both political parties it to maintain and increase their power. How the respective parties go about trying to accomplish that goal is what is different

well, in his younger days he was more wild and less effective. As he got older he tames some of his wildness and became more effective. Just some numbers to prove my point. In the first 11 years of his career, he pitched 1895.1 innings and walked 953 batters for a rate of 4.52 walks per 9 innings,
For the last 12 years of his career he pitched 2400 innings and walked 640 batters for a rate of 2.4 per 9 innings. His ERA for the first 11 years was 3.71. The last 12 years was 3.37. My numbers may be slightly off, but you get the idea

I think we can all agree they haven’t made em like Calvin Coolidge in a very long time.

Well...wild was a poor choice on my part. He was legitimately wild early in his career. Then, when he gained better command, he used the "wild" reputation he had built up to a massive advantage. Batters were terriried they would get their head beaned or ankles broken when, in reality, Johnson probably knew where most of his pitches were going to go within an inch. When dino compared throwing balls into the dirt vs. around the plate, what's wrong with the pitcher who is intentionally using the dirt to get outs? Recording the out is all that matters, not how trademark your delivery is as you get it.

when i am told that a white man who says that white people should be allowed to refuse to serve blacks or gays is not motivated by a philosophy involving hatred and racism and that he is not the embodiment of racism - that he is not indeed a racist
it is time for me to retire from this thread.
i thank bob for recognizing truths esp simple crucial truths about racists.

Yeah, while I said I somewhat agree that a business should be able to decide who they will sell to or service, I also said it is the law that one can not discriminate based on gender, race, religion or sexual preference. If you break the law, you should suffer the consequences, whether you agree with that aw or not. I may retire from this thread as well..half the posts are from people I block and a majority of the posters here call you a aracist or a liar or some derogatory term if you disagree with them. I come here for fun, and it is becoming less and less fun every day.
