I think they do play-ins for divisions first, and then wild cards next.

Exactly. Even if the divisional play-in games have no impact on the wild card play-in games.

I have always assumed they got the same amount of pre-playoff rest as they always did. But never actually paid that much attention

Thank God the playoff points have been minimized. Of course, my 103 and 99 win teams are 0-2 so far (playing teams with worse records). Overall, my four teams are 3-5.
