I have some more but think that's enough for now.

Some quick facts:

• Only 11 years out of all 134 were not used
• The median salary cap is 162M
• Salary cap has almost no correlation with owner rank
• There is also almost no correlation between the % of teams an owner selected 1 player from and owner rank, interestingly

There is also seems to be very little correlation between winning percentage and salary. Teams $10M apart in salary have identical records

That's logical -- when a few extra million is only a small % of your salary cap, the impact is small, and likely less than the impact of a more optimized team. I'd imagine there's some point (lower cap) where that is no longer true and cap becomes more important.

I agree with milest in that their is no correlation between winning% and salary. However, I think there is a threshold where team salary is too low. My guess is at around $145M teams begin to take a hit in winning %. I have only one league's data to support this claim.

I'll do some follow up analysis at the end of the season

A couple of interesting notes from above:

The 1908 Mathewson and Joss were each used 21 times. That means that there was one owner who used the 1908 Giants and not the 1908 Mathewson, and one who used the 1908 Indians but not the 1908 Joss. Presumably they used other versions of those pitchers?

I used the Giants and Cardinals. I used 4 of the 5 most popular Giants seasons, but only 1 of the 4 most popular Cardinals seasons (OK, maybe this is only interesting to me...)

How many people took 1 season, and how many teams and which franchises. I could find it all, but it's not grouped together.

A couple of interesting notes from above:

The 1908 Mathewson and Joss were each used 21 times. That means that there was one owner who used the 1908 Giants and not the 1908 Mathewson, and one who used the 1908 Indians but not the 1908 Joss. Presumably they used other versions of those pitchers?

I used the Giants and Cardinals. I used 4 of the 5 most popular Giants seasons, but only 1 of the 4 most popular Cardinals seasons (OK, maybe this is only interesting to me...)

[Edit] Also, 5 of the top 8 most often used team/seasons were from 1908.

Interesting to me because that was my starting point as well, the 1908 pitchers. Then I built out the team from there.

But I decided to try a whole other approach and ended up liking my second team better. It's doing OK, but I know a lot of people were thinking they wouldn't have minded running out another team to see how it did.

It would be cool to summarize the different combinations, each in separate threads. For example, how many people took only 2 seasons? And what there the seasons and franchises? How many people took 1 season, and how many teams and which franchises. I could find it all, but it's not grouped together.

I can add more context on this league over the next few days. Lots of data on this one

This was, by far, the most intriguing "theme"... I think the REALLY interesting piece will come out at the end of the season when we see where the true sweet spot lands (assuming there is a statistically advantageous mix) for years vs. teams.

Not that it will affect me, but this has generated enough buzz/theories/variations to be part of the series two. Maybe 140-(2x times 2y) or some such variation at a different price point and different multiplier.

I thought I put together a great roster, but they are struggling mightily so far. Be interesting to see the relation between record and cap, and record and teams/years.
