Welcome to FC Dynasty Cup III The following tournament format and rules will apply

TOURNAMENT FORMAT
The tournament will be split into multiple stages, a group play followed by knockout rounds. Teams will be eliminated at the end of each stage until a champion is crowned. This champion will lay claim to glory and shall have bragging rights over all teams in all worlds for a very short period of time.

Group Stage
Each team is initially assigned to a group. Group play will consist of a round robin, with each team playing home and away against the other teams within their group. Points will be based on the following - 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, 0 points for a loss.

The top two teams in points out of each group will advance to the Knockout Stage with tiebreakers being decided in the following order - goal differential, then away goals and lastly goals scored. If the teams are still tied, a coin flip using random.org's random number service will determine who advances.

Knockout Stage
Each round will be a home/away set with the winner being based on aggregate goals. If aggregate goals are tied, away goals will be used as a tiebreaker. If a tie still exists, the higher seed will host the lower seed in an additional game. If that game is tied, the lower seed will then host the higher seed and so on as long as the time frame allows. If the time frame expires and a tie still exists, a coin flip using random.org's random number service will determine who advances.

Seeding for the knockout rounds will be determined in the following order. The six group winners will automatically get the top six seeds and the six 2nd place finishers will be seeded 7-12. Individual seeds are determined by dividing points by games played (referred to as Points Per Game or PPG) and then using the same tiebreaker criteria as explained in the Group Stage paragraphs. The top four seeds will get a 1st Round bye and will begin knockout play in the quarterfinals.

The 1st Round will consist of the following:

#5 seed vs #12 seed
#6 seed vs #11 seed
#7 seed vs #10 seed
#8 seed vs #9 seed

The quarterfinals will consist of the following:

#1 seed vs winner of #8/#9 match-up
#2 seed vs winner of #7/#10 match-up
#3 seed vs winner of #6/#11 match-up
#4 seed vs winner of #5/#12 match-up

The semifinals will consist of the following:

#1 seed quarterfinals match-up vs #4 seed quarterfinals match-up
#2 seed quarterfinals match-up vs #3 seed quarterfinals match-up

Championship Round
The Championship Round will match the two remaining teams in a home and away series with the winner being based on aggregate goals. Away goals are not used as a tiebreaker during the Championship Round. If an aggregate goal tie occurs, the host of the additional game will be decided by a coin flip using random.org's random number service. The Championship Round is the only round not subject to a set time frame. Tiebreakers will continue to be played until a Champion is declared.

TOURNAMENT RULES
Each stage of the tournament will have a specific time frame in which all games must be scheduled. Failure to schedule games within the allotted time frame will result in a forfeiture. On the evening of the last day for each stage, all games that have not been scheduled will be deemed a 0-0 draw so that the stage can be completed. The team failing to issue (or accept) a challenge will be awarded no points for the drawn game. Any team with more than one forfeiture will be withdrawn from the tournament and cannot advance.

Entering the final 72 hours of each stage's time frame, any team that has not received a challenge by an opponent (or has sent a challenge that has not been accepted) should post a request to the other coach here or, if the coach does not have posting rights, via sitemail to gomiami1972, who will post the request on your behalf in this forum thread. I would prefer, if you do not have posting rights, to send any requests through me rather than sitemailing each other. That will cut down on the volume of mail being shipped about.

If you receive a challenge in the same slot you have sent a challenge, please accept the incoming challenge and re-issue your own. If you receive multiple challenges in the same slot, choose one ASAP to give the team you declined as much time as possible to issue a new request.

Time Frame to Schedule Group Stage Games - October 1st through October 14th (Challenges must be sent/accepted by 7pm on the 14th. This does not mean the games must be played by the 14th.)
Time Frame to Schedule 1st Round Games - October 18th through October 25th (Challenges must be sent/accepted by 7pm on the 25th. This does not mean the games must be played by the 25th.)
Time Frame to Schedule Quarterfinal Games - October 25th through November 1st (Challenges must be sent/accepted by 7pm on the 1st. This does not mean the games must be played by the 1st.)
Time Frame to Schedule Semifinal Games - October 31st through November 6th (Challenges must be sent/accepted by 7pm on the 6th. This does not mean the games must be played by the 6th.)

The Championship will consist of the finals and, if possible, will be updated after the 7pm game each night. Individual game results show the home team always to the LEFT of the bracketed score. Numbers in bold between the team names represent aggregate goals. A full explanation to determine the winner can be found in the Tournament Format and Rules post above. Away goals are not used as a tiebreaker for the Championship and, since there is no time frame, tiebreaker games will be played until a champion is crowned. All games complete.

Between now and the start of FC Dynasty Cup IV, Aurea Curce Aquilonis and scottml have all the glory, in excelsis.

Congratulation to Wolves and jhill for claiming the runner up trophy in a very competitive tournament. The L'Orteil D'or ends up being a runaway for Dayquan Montano (Aquilonis) as he scores 13 goals, five more than the runner-up...who was a teammate.

Unscheduled Games. The deadline for scheduling Group Stage games (October 1st-14th) has passed. The forfeiture is determined by activity during the Group Stage.

For Group E, Tottenham was the team that was slow to schedule. Tottenham forfeits the points and both Cambridge and North Polar are awarded the tie tally for each game. On the 16th and 17th, the three remaining games were scheduled. It's good to know you guys were continuing to send challenges and I do appreciate it. I'll record the results here (thought not in the Group Stage standings.)

In Group F, Dortmund, Boston and Liverpool all forfeit their points. In games where any of these three teams play each other, neither team is awarded the point. Köln and Cow Shields are the only teams to have the tie tally count in the standings.

OK, the sign-up phase is now complete. I will have the entire rules and format section as well as the Group Tables complete by the end of the weekend.

The Group Stage for FC Dynasty Cup III has officially begun. There are 239 FC Dynasty Championships represented in this tournament. I'd advise you bring your A game. Tiebreakers and Knockout Rounds seeding revolve around goal differential and goals scored, so show no mercy.

I have sent a sitemail to each of you. From now on, most of my communication will be right here. For those of you with posting rights, feel free to post tourney comments. If you have any questions, ask me here or sitemail me. During the tournament, I'm online at least once every day to update the standings.

No rush...that's why I give a couple of weeks to schedule Group Stage games. A lot of us play world tournaments at the same time the Cup is going on.

p.s. I made an error in the sitemail I sent all of you. I was going to send out a correction sitemail but I got some sort of server error from WIS. So...I'll just post the correction here. The 2nd paragraph mentioned the 17th. Ignore it. All Group Stage games that are scheduled by the 14th will be honored, regardless of when the game is actually played.

It's a lot of manual entry but I enjoy running these tournaments. As long as others enjoy it as well, I'll keep doing it. I'm glad you're playing this time, Paul, and thanks for recruiting the other World 79 coaches. You drew a tough group. If we had a "Group of Death" designation, Group E would probably be it.

The first contest is tonight between 244 and Swamp City Dragons out of Group C. October 3rd is when the fireworks really begin with five game slated, followed by another six games on the 4th.

24hrs in to the Group Stage time frame and (already) 51 of the 88 games have been scheduled. 23 out of the 26 teams have at least two games on the docket, so thank you, everyone. Please continue scheduling those remaining contests.

I have this buried in the Tournament Format and Rules section but now is a good time to pull it out since it will happen - If you receive a challenge in the same slot you have sent a challenge, please accept the incoming challenge and re-issue your own. If you receive multiple challenges in the same slot, choose one ASAP to give the team you declined as much time as possible to issue a new request.
