Same Team Transformation Challenge, Version 2 --> MLB125860
With bheid408's approval, I will run season 2 of this theme. I've tried to keep most of the rules similar to version 1, although a few changes have been made (highlighted).
This theme will last for 5 overlapping legs. We will start the next leg around the 40 game mark of the previous leg. So the fifth and final leg will start around the time leg 1 starts its playoffs. Hopefully, we will lose fewer owners with the change. I do request that you try to commit to playing all five legs when you sign up.
The Standard WIS Format of 24 Teams with 6 divisions and 8 playoff teams will be used.
$50 from administration will go to the 3 owners with the most regular season wins over the 5 seasons. $25, $15, $10. You must play all five legs to qualify for this prize.
We will all start with the same single season team.
Version 1: 1927 New York Yankees
Version 2: 1969 Baltimore Orioles
For Leg 1, the draft center will load 24 players from the '69 Orioles. There are actually 25 eligible players on the 1969 Orioles. You will need to manually add catcher Clay Dalrymple as he doesn't get automatically added.
At this point, you must drop 5 players and add 5 different players to get your roster to 25. You can drop any 5 players you want. Each leg going forward you'll drop 5 more '69 Orioles. So, you'll have twenty '69 Orioles for leg 1, fifteen for leg 2, ten for leg 3, five for leg 4, and zero '69 Orioles for leg 5. Once you drop players from the '69 Orioles you cannot bring those players back, even if it's a different season. (Note that if you do a manual search for 1969 Baltimore Orioles pitchers, you will see an 11th pitcher but Frank Bertaina only pitched 6 innings for Baltimore so he is not eligible for this theme).
In each leg, the players you keep from the '69 Orioles must actually use their 1969 season. No Twisting.
Choosing your 5 Replacement Players:
This is the most critical and also the most enjoyable step of this theme. You will choose your 5 replacement players. The first five players you choose, you must keep them for all 5 legs and use a different year of that player for each leg. The second five players you choose, you will keep them for four legs, and use a different year of that player for each leg. And so on.
1. Replacement hitters can come from any season
2. Replacement pitchers can come from seasons 1920 and later
3. Players selected three times or more in round 1 of Version 1 are blacklisted (this blacklist is shown below)
4. Replacements must use a different season than what was used in any of the previous legs
5. Replacements are not exclusive within a leg (i.e., five people could select Mike Piazza in leg 1), however any replacement players selected in leg 1 cannot be selected again in future legs by other owners (i.e., only those five Piazza owners will be able to use him in successive legs. Nobody else can take Piazza in a future leg). This applies to players selected in round 2 and later as well (round 2 players cannot be selected by new owners in legs 3+, etc)
6. Players on the 1969 Baltimore Orioles cannot be selected as replacements.
The Salary Cap will increase slightly for each leg
Leg 1: $100 million.
Leg 2. $102 million
Leg 3. $104 million
Leg 4. $107 million
Leg 5. $110 million
Blacklisted Players (there were 9 players selected 3+ times in round 1 of Version 1 and thus are blacklisted)
Hitters: Wade Boggs, Jimmie Foxx
Starting Pitchers: Randy Johnson, Clayton Kershaw, Greg Maddox, Pedro Martinez
Relief Pitchers: Mariano Rivera, Billy Wagner, Hoyt Wilhelm
Your total initial salary before adding your five replacements should be $91,256,297. So you will have around $9 million plus whatever salary you gain by releasing five players.
