When is it time to go to the waiver wire? Topic

Have 1949 Bob Dillinger hitting... .190 AVG - .233OBP - .261 SLG - .493 OPS in 170 AB.

Log5 stats have him .323#AVG - .372#OBP - .419#SLG - .791#OPS

His performance history in open leagues has him hitting .310AVG at his worst and a max of .366AVG, with a total average of a .317AVG.

When is it time to jump on wire and find someone to replace? Too early still?

Dump him now!!! At least i would!

No reason to use the waiver wire unless you’ve discovered a better player for less money.

That's totally correct. I use the ww a lot. Some owners think it's bad but i have no problem dumping any player if he's significantly underperforming, especially after 170 PAs. But the key is replacing that player with a little cheaper player.

My point is more the opposite — a player’s performance so far has no bearing on how well he will do for the rest of the season, so you shouldn’t dump anyone unless you realize you messed up in your initial assessment of player value and find someone cheaper who is actually also better.

The 10% penalty will catch up with you if you overuse the WW. You will water down your roster.....that's not to say change might be in order, it might be beneficial in limited use...

This is a bit simplistic. Sometimes their production tells you something - maybe they aren't suited to your park, or the types of pitchers that are frequent in the league. In that case, it may be time to look for someone more suitable, even if they aren't better overall statistically.

I suppose, but why then did you draft them in the first place? Replacing a $5M player with a $4.6M player is usually going to be counter productive...

Exactly -- unless you really misjudged what types of teams would be in the league, or didn't build a team suited to your own park (which would be weird), there's no reason to complicate it.

I do it all the time and it works for me.

I just don't believe in paying for production that a cheaper player can give me.

Then you should have drafted the cheaper player in the first place.

Could be so, but that fails to address the question. Is it time to make the move? THAT was the question.

ozomatli has answered that directly.

So did I. DUMP him and find someone a little cheaper who will better fit your ballpark.
