Personal note #2: Cirillo played for one our high school’s rivals, so we faced him several times. He was a dominating pitcher and arrogant (his license plate read: JC KS YOU). He pitched a couple no-hitters against us too, one with 16 Ks (out of 21 outs). He also held the state RBI record for some time. Definitely the best we ever faced.
(we had a doubleheader scheduled against another future MLB star’s team, Royce Clayton, but it got rained out. Our guys were eager to try to beat him but never got to even see him. Teams never got out of the clubhouses.)
