I'm in a new keeperish league (Play The Hand You're Dealt) and we get to keep 1 player (for a particular season) for the duration of the league. Salary doesn't really matter.

So I've got a choice of either Cobb or King Kelly. Cobb has the higher salary and I guess is theoretically worth more. But I'm not sure - is the advantage of having an elite catcher too much for Cobb to overcome? Is the OBP worth it?

Initially I was thinking Cobb but lately I'm waffling. If you could have one of these players for 10+ seasons, who would you pick?

If you get to use the same season each time, Kelly. If you can afford him. Otherwise i would take Cobb. He has several more great years than Kelly does. It isn't even close, unlike the Cobb/Speaker choice in progressive drafts.

I would think you might have few if any catchers available that meet what Kelly brings to the table...

30 team league, basically no cap (255m), only one owner can own each player, and we get to keep the same season forever. So I'd always have Kelly's 16mil season. Or Cobb's 21mil season.

So replacement level is the 31st best catcher season, excluding any duplicates (so only one Piazza, one Cochrane, etc). And the 31st best CF (or 91st best outfielder)

I would take Kelly. Platoon is always an option, but can you put 2 seasons together that make up for his loss? Cobb would be easier to replace, imo...

A strong consensus. How often do we see this level of agreement on this site, and by so many of the best players here. But I will add my name to the consensus. DoctorKz asked exactly the right questions and you have answered them. Kelly it is by a landslide.

Agree, Kelly would be my choice under the specifics you outlined.
