February 22nd marks the 40th Anniversary of one of, if not the greatest days in American sports history – On February 22, 1980, our U.S. Olympic Hockey Team defeated a mighty Soviet Union team in Lake Placid, New York.
To this day, I still have the Sports Illustrated cover framed in my office. “Al Michaels’ exclamation at the end of the United States’ 4-3 upset of the USSR in the 1980 Olympic hockey semifinals is remembered by many as the greatest call in the history of American sportscasting.

I'll bite. Cool idea. Looking over the guys born in 1980 makes me feel old (Pujols, Holliday, Swisher, etc...). Mostly all are out or almost out of the game (excepting for Nellie Cruz, who continues to go strong). I was in college and watched the Miracle game on TV while at a house party. You could hear a pin drop as the game went on. It was one of those surrealistic moments when you remember exactly where you were as the game ended.

I get chills just reading your story . . . . I get a bit emotional every time I see a video clip. . . I love this country and at that time, tension was a bit high.
Beating them Russian pros with a bunch of amateurs was something else . . .
