Below is the draft grid I have set up. I will allow a bit of time for any questions or concerns, and then I will have someone outside the league randomly assign an owner to each letter. I mixed up the rounds as best I could so that the same owners wouldn't always be receiving each others picks. For reference, I have posted a summary of each letter's picks below the grid. Seasons do not have to be specified. So if the person ahead of you picks Ruth and you end up with Ruth as well, you get to decide which season of Ruth you use. It's unlikely anyone will be forced to use a grossly expensive season of a player. That being said, you may be forced to choose between a good, high-priced season of a player or a cheaper, mediocre season...it's a balance that should make roster construction quite interesting as well.

Not a concern as such, but with only 12 rounds, it's surprising to see teams picking three times at the same place.

I do think it was a good idea to make the first two rounds a snake draft, though I notice you varied that for S and V, presumably to give S one top-3 pick.

Yes. I tried to keep it consistent. I upped the gap between consecutive letters by 1 each time through. Then made some small tweaks for the couple letters that didn’t have a top 3 pick.

I’m definitely open to feedback if people think there’s a more fair way to divvy it up.

What if everyone drafts a hitter (or pitcher)? Any thoughts on maintaining balance? Quick thought is to require each owner to draft a specific number of each. Say 7 hitters and 5 pitchers?

I agree with midnight

But the randomization of the order might affect that. What if you are stuck behind someone who drafts 11 pitchers and you're required to draft 5 more? I think that would be part of the strategy, knowing when to take a hitter and when to take a pitcher to balance your roster.

I don’t see it being an issue. I think it’s part of the strategy. A “screw your neighbour” approach won’t work well here. There may be some disparity in that some owners have 10 pitchers and some have 12, for example, but I don’t see an extreme where someone doesn’t have enough.

This is valuable discussion though. Keep the ideas coming.

Actually, this is impossible. Every team will have the exact same number of hitters and pitchers based on the draft rules. The only exception would be the 25th pick. The good news is if one team gets sideways, we all get sideways. I still think there is still a decent risk of our rosters being unbalanced. A couple of other thoughts to maintain roster balance:

1. Make it a longer draft - add a few rounds to put more players in each teams pool to choose from; or
2. Allow AAA to fill gaps (e.g., back-up catcher or bullpen depth)

With the rules as is, the odds of two catchers getting drafted in 12 rounds is low I would guess.

I like the theme and the concept, and also think the draft structure is fair. Nice job and seems a lot of thought went into it. With or without tweaks to the rules, we are all in the same boat.

Depending on what the people in front of you do, It is very possible that after the 25th pick you still may have a hole in your roster. You may have to play say a 4th outfielder at 2B. It could be a fun mess!

It’s possible for two owners to end up with a different number of pitchers since we don’t draft ahead of/behind the same players all the time. I think we will all be presented with some fun challenges though.

Based on what I'm seeing, we should have enough flexibility in our drafts to get enough IP and a solid enough lineup to have a viable team at $120M. Well put together JT.
